Re: Found out I've been taken advantage of by a dentist

Whether it meets the legal standard of fraud or not, I don't think it's unreasonable to use the word fraud, especially if you were to call it "constructive fraud" (which doesn't require intent). The dentist has had a lot of time to conclude that they lack the skills to complete the course of treatme...

Re: Found out I've been taken advantage of by a dentist

I also don't want to spend another $5-6,000+ on braces, so I want to see if I could perhaps get my teeth extracted for $600 now and then continue my treatment with the dentist I have even if he isn't as competent as an orthodontist. Don't make a decision based on money. Find a good orthodontist, re...

Re: Your thoughts

A general dentist (or medical general practitioner) can provide a useful 'sanity check' given their personal knowledge of you. They can also bring their own biases and give really poor advice on things they know little about and/or fail to refer you onwards. Be careful about paying too much attentio...

On the upside you're not the one who has to look at it.

Re: New To Braces - Will I See Jawline Changes?

For some people, depending upon your genetics, the last "little bit" of excess weight is stored in their face, and losing that can result in cheekbones, jawline etc coming out to play. It can really change your look. However, you probably just don't have the associated bone structure. Definition is ...

Re: Orthodontist recommendation - Sydney

https://www.ortho-x.com.au If you go there, make sure you take your own OPG and Ceph (you can get bulk billed or at least rebatable at a radiology clinic using referral from your dentist). Getting them onsite is more expensive as not medicare. Initial consult + models will cost you close to $300 but...

Re: Open bite correction

What surgical movements does that orthodontist think is necessary?

There's plenty of threads about this subject, here's a recent one:

Re: Open Bite Treatment. Non surgical

I went for a surgical consult and the surgeon (of course) recommended surgery over TADs for stability of the bite. A surgeon was the first person I consulted, 3.5 years ago. I expected him to recommend surgery due to the severity of my open bite, but he in fact said '10 years ago I would have recom...

Re: Open Bite Treatment. Non surgical

Also consider the interlabial gap (although usually associated with gummy smile) and whether you need advancement.

If you have insufficient overjet they can intrude the lowers. They can also retract the lower teeth in order to increase overjet.

Re: Open Bite Treatment. Non surgical

he didn't think it was worth it to do TADs because they fail and aren't as stable as surgery. Urrrrg, such a lazy response. Relapse occurs with surgery also. With molar intrusion they typically aim to overcorrect the open bite in order to account for relapse. You should not expect an inferior resul...

But that's irrelevant - who cares if someone specifically notices you have a better jaw. What happens is that people think you look better, they just can't put their finger on the reason.

Anyway, good luck OP.

Re: Cosmetic jaw surgery in Australia

I'm not sure exactly what you want doing because your profile looks fine and nothing obvious. Seriously?????????? That photo screams classic suboptimal. That mandible is steep. Jawline poor. Weak chin. This is not simply in the OP's head and he's got a point when he says "And most adults are just a...

Re: Over-impacted upper jaw?

I'm not sure what I would do if another surgeon agrees that I was over-impacted. Do I go see my surgeon? Is that going to resolve your issue? He's not going to admit his error (difference of opinion) and it's not like you'd want to let him do anything else to you or trust his advice. It's not going...

Re: Over-impacted upper jaw?

He told me to wait 6-12 months for everything to settle down Usual fob-off BS. I don't know what to do, possibly nothing because of that, but I'm still so depressed over how it looks. He says I'm also making a big deal. I don't understand how he can brush it off. Based on that alone I'd describe th...

Re: Can anyone look at these pictures and tell me if my goals sound realistic?

You need to be directing these questions to an orthodontist who has done the years of training associated with moving teeth, and is also experienced with TADs, rather than some random guy on the internet :P "Is there any risk of changes to your nose if you do intrusion?" I don't believe so, but as a...
