Re: 33 year old finally embarking on the long journey of bra

So the braces saga is continuing, and I have to say overall, I am not impressed. My teeth are moving quickly, but apparently too quickly for my jaw to keep up the pace, so I still can not chew anything. Liquid diet or mashed potatoes or soup for me everyday going on over 7 months now, and a full yea...

Re: 33 year old finally embarking on the long journey of bra

Here a the best pictures I can find of my teeth before braces. It seems I rarely ever smiled large enough to see my teeth! LOL. My bottom teeth don't show in any really, but you can see the vampire fangs that were mentioned and recently pulled. However, I will say these pictures are from 1-2 years a...

Re: 33 year old finally embarking on the long journey of bra

Thanks Dee! Yes, I am looking forward to the positive benefits of the dental diet. LOL. But I also miss, tortilla chips and dip. Mexian food used to be my favorite! I ended up finding out that the bracket I had trouble with was "tied in" because that tooth was so rotated, but when I went y...

Re: 33 year old finally embarking on the long journey of bra

Hi Kipepeo! Thank you for your kind words and response. I have the self ligating ones, and I even watched some you tube videos about closing the bracket, but I can't seem to get it to close. I am assuming it is because the tooth that it is on is extremely rotated and the bracket is in an odd positio...

Re: What was your primary reason for orthodontic treatment?

Totally a functional necessity for me. My TMD symptoms and jaw misalignment were causing me to not be able to eat, laugh, or even cry without extreme pain. I don't think i would ever have been brave enough to do it just for cosmetic reasons. I don't like dentists! (or orthodontists, or anyone else t...

Re: Colour Suggestions :)

I think if we have to suffer through the torture of braces, we should at least be able to have fun with choosing colors! I would go with a cobalt or navy blue if you want to be conservative. The silver seems to make the brackets less obvious in my opinion. Favorite sports team colors are always a fu...

Re: How often are your visits?

I just got metal braces on both upper and lower teeth 5 days ago, and my orthodontist told me to come back in 8 weeks. I thought that seemed like a long interval between visits, but I guess maybe he expects that length of time is needed for the amount of progress to be acheived? Most of the posts I ...

Re: pain-relieving lip treatment?

I have only had my braces on for 5 days, but I have found that carmex has worked well for me. I do have to constantly apply it though.

Re: New to site and braces

Hello! I dont' know that I have much in the advice department to offer. I just had braces put on 5 days ago! I will however encourage you to read through some of these boards, as there seems to be a good bit of helpful information to be found here. I will also tell you what I have been told which is...

Re: Another Newbie Joins Up!

It's nice to hear a story similar to mine. I makes me feel not so "silly" for getting braces at 33 years old. I'm also a nurse, and I feel so stupid when it comes to some of this dental stuff! I hope that you will be thrilled with the outcome of all of your hard work. Everyone keeps tellin...

33 year old finally embarking on the long journey of braces

Hello Everyone! I was excited to find a forum that could offer support to other people that may be having similar experiences. My story started as a 8 year old child. My mother took me to a pediatric dentist who used his infinite wisdom to decide to pull all 8 of my "baby" molars at the sa...
