Re: Need help making decision

You should be seeing the orthodontist. The orthodontist has gone to extra years of schooling specializing in fixing difficult cases, especially jaw or bite discrepancies. Technologies change quickly and by the time you reach the end of the treatment, they may be using better retainers. You can alway...

Feel free to check out my blog showing appointments step by step.

Keep in mind, it's just my experience, other surgeons may want to see you more or less.

Re: Less than perfect results

If a shifted midline is your worst "imperfection" you can count your blessings! Nobody's teeth are perfect and it's true, we are our own worst critics. There are some things that are irreversible, some things than can only be fixed when you are a child or are completely "genetics is t...

Re: What to do? Misplacement of bracket post surgery.

It's not the end of the world and you are not alone. I have a backwards pre-molar and it's staying that way! It grew in that way and maybe that's what happened to you too. Maybe they could have seen the tooth orientation from x-rays? I don't know what to say whether it started that way or not, but I...

Re: Jaw osteotomy relapse???

Sounds strange to me. They shouldn't have done surgery on your jaw until you were done growing so that it couldn't relapse. How much relapse are we talking about? It might be able to be treated with something like clear aligners, but at least from my experience, an overbite above 3-4 mm requires sur...

Re: mild open-bite treatment?

Thank you to the Doctors for actually answering my question! I appreciate the advice and will discuss with my orthodontist at a future appointment.

mild open-bite treatment?

After wearing braces with tons of elastics and a year of retention, my open bite is creeping back. Wondering if invisalign is an option for me for closing the open bite (I would say 0 mm overlap for one tooth). Also, would this require elastics again or can invisalign pull the front teeth down witho...

Re: Elastics with Lingual

my ortho insisted upon elastics on the outside. (See my blog). I had so many bite issues that it ended up looking like a second set of braces on the outside of my teeth.

I will hope that yours are just inside!

Re: Braces Removed Yesterday - Not Happy

The grass is always greener... I don't like that my top front teeth are too vertical...arguably tilted inwards, exactly the opposite of what you're complaining about! Want to switch teeth :) Seriously, I think we sometimes become overly critical as adult patients. Keep in mind there is a "range...

Re: Negative comment about my results :(

Thank you! I'm sending good vibes your way for your continued recovery. Spoke to my ortho about the "mean" comment and I feel a little better about the situation. Also spoke to a friend who's surgery didn't turn out so great, she reminded me that sometimes less is better. Normal people wil...

Re: Don't want to do surgery...will braces suffice?

It all depends on the reason for getting orthodontics to begin with. Are you trying to get straighter teeth or are you trying to change your bite? If your main goal is straighter teeth, I would just go with the braces. If your goal is to change your bite characterstics, then maybe consider surgery. ...

Re: What can I do to avoid extractions in my daughter?

First, you should probably find out WHY your daughter has sleep apnea. Maybe its enlarged tonsils and adenoids, maybe it's a deviated septum. If you address the breathing problems it will help with the dental treatment. She is very young and there is still plenty of time to have things corrected (st...

Re: Tooth Ache After Double Jaw Surgery

It is probably related to the surgery. Numbness and nerve regeneration can take many forms including pain. Some of my teeth still don't feel "normal" but kinda half numb. If you really want someone to look at it, contact your surgeon first. He probably has post-op x-rays which can ID any p...
