Re: Getting a permanent retainer put in a month before braces removed

Mine was done this way as well.

It's because there's not a guarantee that the wire will be perfect. so they fit it while you're still in braces so there's no movement. Sure you have to work harder to clean but...it's better than chancing movement!

Re: THEY'RE OFF!!!!!

Thanks all!

Snowglobe32 I've been on nighttime only wear since I was debraced in December and have had no problems. I tend to wear them about 8-10 hours per night.

Re: I want my permanent retainers out

You'd be surprised. I had braces at 20, got them off and didn't wear my retainers. My teeth did not "go back" to how they were. They were much, much worse. Before I just had a large gap. After I had crowding and overlapping teeth and a bigger gap. I also think it's weirdly attention seeker...

Re: Gift for my orthodontist

My ortho had a baby girl right near the end of my treatment. I made this quilt as a gift for him IMG_7990.JPG He loved it and his wife emailed me thanking me. Made me sure I'd made the right choice! :) I had no specific assistant assigned to me during my treatment so I got "fancy" cookies ...

Help! How can I relieve this swelling?

Even before braces (and during) I would mistakenly do something to inflame my frenum tissue. Well now that's complicated by the bonded retainer.

It is swollen around my retainer and it hurts :/

Re: Never wear retainer during the day???

I have Hawley's and was told I only need nighttime wear (forever). At first it was 24/7 for a month.

HOWEVER, I plan to wear them as much as possible to start, anyway, mostly because I CANNOT talk with them in and it's weird.

THEY'RE OFF!!!!!

Oh my gosh I am so happy! My appt was at 10. By 10:10 the assistant had removed all the brackets. The ceramic brackets were more difficult than the stainless. No 'pain' but pressure and that cracking noise is crazy! It took the ortho a little while to remove all the glue. That was a little difficult...

Like Ambrosia, a LONG time :) it did not signal "the end" at all. Hopefully you're done SOON!

Re: Gap keeps reopening

Please don't take this the wrong way but... You're willing to change your entire tooth structure for veneers but unwilling to wear a retainer every night? Many of us (me included!) are on 'nighttime for life' retainer wear. Do you really want to go through the time, aggravation and cost of braces an...
