Re: Finding it really hard to stay positive

I can't help re. your specific surgery questions, but I did want to share that I had numbness in my bottom lip left half and down to my chin on that side, numbness inside my mouth around the bottom left molars and gums (couldn't feel that area when I brushed), and yet my bottom left incisors were S...

Since day 1 post op my entire chin and bottom lip have been completely without sensation and it hasnt c...

Re: Is my surgeon just taking the conservative route?

Your lip mobility may well be linked to the nerve issues you’re talking about. When they retract the skin to impact your maxilla, the surgeon pushes fairly hard against the nerves that run under your eye sockets. This often times causes reduced upper lip mobility for some time after the surgery. Yo...

Re: Is my surgeon just taking the conservative route?

I was on a full liquid diet for about 8 weeks too. It’s hard, but not impossible. You got this! A significant amount of numbness is totally normal at 2 weeks post-op. That numbness could take several months, or even a year or more to go away, so buckle down for the long haul :? Thanks for the reply...

Re: TMJ advice please?

No problem dude. I think that's a fair assessment to imply your symptoms may come back if you stopped using the splint, however it's good that you have relief when you wear it. What type of bite do you have now? Are you being treated with braces before surgery? It sounds like it bothers you that yo...

Re: TMJ advice please?

hey man. how much does it bother you that your bite doesn't meet after using the splint? does it cause other issues? what tmd symptoms were/are you experiencing? does your current bite cause discomfort or make anything difficult? would it be difficult to live with your current situation/bite? is th...

TMJ advice please?

Hi everyone, sort of new to the board and I need some advice. Ive had TMJ issues for about 3 years now. My orthodontist has me in a splint which I wear 24/7 to help with my TMJ, and it has come to the point with the splint where it seems my symptoms are mostly stable and I experience virtually no pa...

Re: Stopping splint therapy HELP PLEASE!

And yes i will be looking for a second opinion. Im gonna ask some orthos if the splint can actually change my bite permanently or not (which to me seems like absolute bogus).

Re: Stopping splint therapy HELP PLEASE!

Thanks for the reply! Ya im almost certain I have a repositioning splint. It allows my muscles to move my jaw around and apparently is supposed to allow my condyles to seat. Just a question... what did you end up doing after your wore the repositioning splint for 3-6 months? Did you stop wearing it/...

Stopping splint therapy HELP PLEASE!

Sorry for long post So I 5 1/2 months ago I got a splint from my ortho that covers all my uppers. Hes using it to adjust my jaws position so that my bite is stable prior to upper and lower jaw surgery. Let me note that prior to the splint I never really had any tmj issues, at least not any that were...

By 'decompensating' are you referring to what the splint is doing?
