Re: Where can I get 'surgery supplies' from in the UK??
I didn't use a jaw bra, but I got some long cold/hot pads from amazon amd tied them round my head using a muslin cloth (pack of five, £4 from Asda) http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B001RXNF92/ref=oh_details_o02_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&psc=1 The hospital will give you syringes for your medicine, but th...

Re: Poll: How tightly were you banded shut?
I was incredibly lucky: Double jaw with big measurements (bottom back about 9mm, top up 4mm, forward 6mm and canted) I didn't have any banding until 3 weeks later. I've now got a box one side, and on the other, I've got one band from canine to canine. My bite was perfect following surgery, my wonder...

Drink as much as you can. I was given 'fat' shakes, but they were grim, managed to get a decent who bought chocolate milkshake (Frijj if you are UK!) and the sugar really helped.
You will probsbly feel really low in the next few days, post anaesthesia cloud! Keep going xxx

Now I'm on 'the other side' I thought I would be in a better place to post my three *could not live withouts* A plastic beaker. (Fill with salt water, shake head from left to right, part mouth spit in sink... Stay classy kids!) muslin cloths (those lovely cotton things you get for babies... 5 weeks ...

Hi there, I'm an NHS survivor too; here's my timeline (which according to others', is pretty average!) October 2013- "Hmmm, one more adjustment and you're ready. I just want a little more movement at the front" December 2013 "let's book you in to meet the surgeon at the next big meeti...

Re: March 2014 buddies unite!
Murph, glad you're doing alright. My anaesthetist was so Irish I thought he was talking in Gaelic. We must have looked like a right pair. My three year old just came in, asleep. Mr Dave put her in the bed next to me, she woke up about 20 minutes later, caught sight of me and started screaming, cryin...

Re: March 2014 buddies unite!
So I went in on Tuesday at 12pm. Went under at just before 2 and was out at 8pm. Surgery was supposed to take 3-4 but took longer because my surgeon didn't have a piece of equipment he wanted, so sent an ambulance down from another hospital with it! Of the surgical wafer snapped so they had another ...

Re: March 2014 buddies unite!
Hiya Murph, I went in for my surgical hooks yesterday too (Tuesday) and had my wafer fitted... Did they show you the models of what your teeth will look like after? It's just something else....! This time next week we will have new faces...and probably be off our faces on painkillers. Rock on! With ...

Re: UK blog
Having my surgery in Devon, moved down 7 years ago. The lure of cream tea and old people was just too much. Originally from the North East... Miss the north and 'civilisation' in general. Aye, 2 weeks until surgery. Braces have been on 15 months and I know its a cliche but it's flown by! It's been h...

Re: UK blog
Hi Tom, Welcome to the world of braces and jaw surgery. My face and case is very similar to to yours (except I've got freckles and lipstick!) After around 6 months, the ligature changes don't hurt much, as there is less movement to your teeth. It's more 'uncomfortable' than anything else. After abou...

I could not live without _____ after my jaw surgery...?
Hello all, I am due to go in and have my face fixed on the 25th March. I'm a UK and NHS patient, and I've been looking through the pre/post op list, which is quite frankly, terrifying! (Mainly because half of the things on there don't exist in England...) So... If you had to suggest THREE ITEMS ONLY...

Where are you travelling from and to?
As far as I can gather from lots of research (and no personal experience... I'm due to be fixed 25th March) you should be perfectly fine after 5 weeks, but will probsbly get tired quite easily. Xx

All these Irish folk... Lovely! How could you leave Ireland for the states?!? Nothing wrong with the states but Ireland is so beautiful. I'm used to hurtling around school chasing after naughty kids, so it's going to be awful sitting back and not doing anything! Any tips on the eating front? I canno...
