Re: Who applied your braces?
My ortho does everything. The assistant does what her role says, assists. She hands him the tools required but that's all. She hasn't come anywhere near my mouth and I don't expect she ever will. The practice my ortho works at is small. He shares it with his partner but they don't work on the same d...

Re: No brackets on the back?
I have the same set up that you're about to get. The bands for my nance are around my second molars from the back with my last molar (not wisdom, they're removed) butting up against the bands. My last molars don't seem to be affected by the bracket at all. They sit quite comfortably. Some advice tha...

Re: What was your primary reason for orthodontic treatment?
Mine are for oral health reasons. My overcrowding is so bad that I can't brush or floss properly, causing cavities. The amount of money I have spent on dentist bills to keep my teeth is good shape could have paid for my braces already. Appearance was a very close second. I'm very conscious of my app...

Re: Spacers are horrible.
I had spacers in for two weeks. There were four in total, two on each side of my upper jaw. It was HORRIBLE. I ate soft food for the entire time because each time I ate something firm, it pushed onto my gums causing pain. I still say that the spacer pain was worse than any braces pain i've had. You ...

Hi Tobilei!
I've been a bit slack with commenting on the forum of late.
Are you having much pain? I have found that chewing gum keeps the bad pain at bay making it easier to cope with.
You're teeth are coming along really well! You must be stoked!

Re: How often are your visits?
I go every 4 - 6 weeks. My powerchains are working fairly well so I have been going every month to have them replaced. My next appointment was meant to be in a month but due to an operation that i'm having soon it was stretched out to 8 weeks to allow me to recover afterwards.

You teeth look amazing!
My teeth now look like yours did in the beginning, except my canines were closer to my front teeth, taking longer to move. I can't wait to get the same teeth that you have.
Congratulations!

You will be glad you did it in the end! It may only be a week but it can make a huge difference.
Good luck with your fitting.

Re: Hi there!
Welcome to the forum! I got my braces in November. It amazing how much your teeth move in such a short space of time. I'm not excited about being broke for the next 14 months, but it's nothing compared to the self confidence I'm going to feel when it's all over (and I start having money again) :) Go...

Re: 8 months in!
I will be having IPR on my bottom teeth when it's time as they are only just too big. I'm actually a little bit scared of it as filing of my teeth sounds horrible but my ortho assures me that its very beneficial.

Re: Professional teeth cleaning before and during?
My ortho hasn't requested me getting professional cleans but I have chosen to do it. Luckily my health fund will cover two cleans a year in full but for the others, I have to pay around $100 each. I think it's worth it and you'll be glad you did in the end.

Re: What toothpaste do you use?
I've been using Colgate Total because it is the one that the ortho gave me the day I was braced. It seems to be working fine.
Maybe the pro one you were using was too strong for your gums?

Re: Most Difficult Foods to Eat
I find fruit like blueberries and cherries are a pain to get out of my teeth, The skin wraps around the wires like sticky take and literally need to be pulled out with a tooth pick. I love them but they drive me crazy!!

Re: How many ortho's did you consult?
I saw just one too. I have a wonderful dentist who highly recommended my ortho and I trusted him enough not to shop around. My initial consult was $160 and it included the mould and plan. The xray was free, covered under our Medicare system. I don't know if the xray is usually free but my ortho gave...
