Did you have a jaw repositioning splint before your surgery to relax your jaw into proper position?

Re: Mouth rinse - my experience
I can tell you from my SARPE experience that the Peridex does stain teeth, but it's like a brownish drank-too-much-coffee kind of stain and it can be cleaned off by your hygienist. I get a blue residue from the Peridex on some spots but not a lot. My Rx said to use it for two weeks but I'm almost on...

Any of the movements you asked about should be possible, but would likely be considered cosmetic by the insurance company unless the movement corrects your bite. That means you would be paying out of pocket. Not sure if that matters to you.

Re: Soft foods post-surgery
Some more notes on what I've been eating lately: Wish I made more chix stock and fewer soups before surgery. I can blend just about anything with chix stock and in addition to tasting great it ups the nutritional value some. I've been eating a lot of baby food fruit purees lately becuase they are so...

Re: Soft foods post-surgery
I've been making a concoction the past two days that's been awesome and super smooth. I don't have a gap at the back of my molars so everything I'm eating has to be able to sieve between my teeth and this new concoction is fitting the bill. I'm using infant rice cereal with equal parts milk and home...

1. Some relapse is expected, and your surgeon should plan it into your surgery. 2. Lefort 1 is just the maxilla I think - to affect the midface (cheeks and eyes) you start getting into Lefort 2 and 3. 3. I threw up after my surgery but it wasn't nearly as bad as I thought it would be. 4. I don't kno...

Re: Lost sense of smell after double jaw surgery
My sense of smell has been fine after surgeries, but my sense of taste was greatly diminished due to the antibacterial rinse. It came back about a week after I stopped using the rinse last time. Are you using a special rinse, or taking narcotic drugs for pain? I wonder if those might be responsible ...

Re: DECEMBER 2014 BUDDIES!!
Surgery went well last night. They put me on a patch before the surgery last night. I also had zofran in my IV during surgery and more after b/c they did remember to tell the recovery room nurse. I love nurses. The one I had last night once I got a room wasn't great though. I had some kind of device...

Re: Talking imediately after BSSO - communicating with nurse
Thanks for the links!
Unfortunately, the surgery is in three days, so I don't think there is time to get them to consider a new protocol.
Were you able to communicate with the nurses immediately after surgery, even if you didn't have any problems with nausea?

Re: Anyone with nocturnal bruxism who had double jaw surgery
I "clench" at night. I don't wear a guard or anything. I don't think it caused any problems for my SARPE surgery, and I'm up to have a BSSO next week, so I'll let you know how that goes. I did have a few moments in the weeks following my SARPE that were a bit disconcerting where my lower j...

Thank you for responding!
Haven't heard back from the surgeon yet, I just got concerned b/c the sheet that comes with both the Armour and the Cytomel say to let your doctor know you take these drugs if you're having surgery. Good to know it hasn't been an issue with your surgeries. Thanks!

Re: DECEMBER 2014 BUDDIES!!
I'm so sorry to hear you're getting jerked around by the hospitals. That stinks. I really hope you can both get your surgeries in soon! I'm up next Thursday. Just paid the surgeon today, and I go in on Monday to see my regular doctor for a pre-surgery physical. I'm getting pretty nervous by trying n...

Re: What RX Drugs are allowed before and after surgery?
I just called my surgeon to ask. Waiting for a call back but glad I thought to call and ask him directly. Don't know why I didn't think to just call and ask before posting here! I'll respond with whatever he tells me in case it helps anyone else - but also ask your surgeon (I need to remember to tak...

What RX Drugs are allowed before and after surgery?
I take prescription thyroid medicine (Armour, and Cytomel) and I'm wondering if I can still take these before and after my surgery? I still have an intact thyroid gland, I just make too much reverse T3, if that matters. I have to get a physical from my prescribing doctor Monday, so I can ask her the...
