Re: Relapse

Hi jem, So sorry to hear about this relapse, but it sounds fairly minor. Although I am not an ortho, that won't prevent me from providing a SWAG on your situation. After debracing, I wore my Vivera retainer 24/7 for about 4 months as I recall. But, since it seems you are actively moving a tooth, I'd...

Re: Grinding

Does anyone grind their teeth? I’ve noticed I have been over being stressed about getting braces. I hope it doesn’t continue after I get them on. Does anyone grind with braces? Do you have a mouth guard specialty made for braces? :x I think the sponsor of this forum, dentakit.com, has a mouth guard...

Re: Smile Direct Club Disaster

Interesting video; as you mention in your reply, Lynn, he needed to consult an orthodontist, not a general dentist. I don't think he mentioned the word "orthodontist" at any point in this rant and seems not to grasp the difference. Thomas Gessel provided the comment about the issue of veneers and th...

Great to hear, TimSeattle! I've been debraced for several years and wear my retainers religiously. Best of luck for continued success.

Re: Chin implant

Thanks for the info. Did most of the patients you see this procedure done on have braces or the surgery where they also move their jaw forward? I had a consult with a surgeon today. They took photos like at an orthodontic consult. He said that the herbst is bring my jaw forward and giving me a more...

Re: Left retainer on hot windowsill

I don't think you have anything to worry about as long as you are feeling the same sensation when you put it in, i.e., your teeth pulling a bit. At least I feel some slight tension when I insert mine every night. If this feeling has changed, then you should probably see your ortho. Best of luck to y...

Re: Chin implant

I've not had a chin implant, but suspect your ortho sees it as a useful supplement to your current regimen. An early consultation with a plastic surgeon will help determine the size of the implant based on your projected goals with orthodontics. Hopefully your ortho and the surgeon will coordinate t...

Re: First powerchain and rectangular wire

Agree with Andy. I have been out of braces for several years now, but recall that each adjustment - even if it was only the application of new powerchains -- resulted in tightness and discomfort. I tried to psych myself up and saw this discomfort as a positive thing, that the braces, elastics, and p...

Re: Anyone have experience taking prednisone with braces?

I don't that have that particular personal experience, but you have a good plan. And, best of luck with that medical condition. I would suspect that at most the prednisone might delay the completion of your treatment slightly, since it sounds like this will be a short-term med for you. Best of luck ...

Re: Can’t bite down with retainer

I'm not sure what retainer you have -- I have the Vivera hard-plastic type, and need to remove it before eating -- and yes, I think if you bit down hard you will damage the retainer. Take it out when eating or drinking. Best of luck to you.

Re: Almost no pain - normal?

Is this within the realm of normalcy or had I better watch out? Both. The early wires are usually not too aggressive, and are more concerned with moving the teeth into a proper North-South vertical sort of arrangement. Even with later wires and elastics and powerchains, I did not think the pain was...

Re: Men with Braces

I got braces at age 62 mainly to correct some functional issues. My two year sentence ran into three due to some stubborn gaps. I've been out of braces for about 3 years (I lose track). The presenting issue was a gap that existed because an incompetently placed crown that allowed the existing tooth ...
