Re: New to orthodontic treatments. What are brackets?

Brackets are the actual braces you'll be getting. Those are the little square metal pieces on your teeth that will be glued (bonded) to your teeth and where the wire will go in along with the elastics. Here's a model.

Re: Elastic gone?

The bracket itself is fine, the elastic o-ring keeping the wire in place is nowhere to be seen. I'll call in the morning then. :)

Elastic gone?

I was brushing and flossing and doing my normal cleaning routine when I realized that an elastic band was missing on one of my molars. I'm actually terrified now because of not having anything keeping the wire in the bracket in the tooth to cause the pressure, but the wire is still in there thanks t...

Re: Nervous about two spacers tomorrow - still not wired

You'll get there! Spacers for me personally weren't painful at all, it was just annoying to have something stuck in my teeth. After a day or two it become a little sore to chew, but that was nothing big.

Good luck tomorrow!

Re: Six Month Smiles

From my understanding they also have a few day courses to be qualified to do Invisalign as well. It's pretty important to do research ahead of time no matter what type of braces you end up getting.

Re: Whitening while in treatment - Opalescence Trèswhite Ort

Personally, I wouldn't use any whitening treatment while in braces unless I was wearing Invisalign. I would think that part of the tooth the brackets are covering are not going to be whitened which would lead to uneven colored teeth. I used crest white strips about a month or two before getting mine...

Re: No Pressure?

I know this feeling, I was starting to worry I'd damaged the wire or brackets and they weren't doing what they should be doing! Also doesn't help I can't see massive amounts of movement, I've had my braces for 6 weeks now. My first adjustment is in 2 weeks, can't wait to feel pressure and pain agai...

Re: No Pressure?

Phew, at least I'm not the only one! I guess I just associate the pain with things working and now that the pain stopped it just feels weird to me.

No Pressure?

I've had my braces put on the 26th and its been 6/7 days. My teeth were crazy sensitive and sore up until day four, and since then it doesn't hurt at all really. I don't even feel pressure any longer. I'm probably just being paranoid, but is that normal to have the pressure go away and feel as if no...

Braced Beauty -- My Braces Experience.

I promised myself before I even got braces on that I would update as I went along and to take progress pictures, and I thought I would share it for others.

Re: Wearing elastics when sick

I don't think that one night of skipping wearing elastics is going to do much harm, just make sure to keep wearing them as you normally would and not to double up on them because you missed a night. You should be fine. :)

Re: How many ortho's did you consult?

I only consulted one ortho, and I'm not too worried about having not consulted any others before deciding to move along with him. The most important thing is that I trust my current orthodontist.

Potato chips are a disaster to eat, always getting stuck in the brackets.

Re: what's the cost of your braces?

Woodbridge, NJ.
$4000 after a $1000 discount from the ortho because the insurance company doesn't cover braces (he's awesome).
Traditional Metal Braces.
Estimated 18-24 months, although he said my case would most likely be around 18 months instead of 24.
