I asked the same thing...no one else seemed to have an answer I had the problem of money saved for Braces. But not braces and oral surgery, it was one or the other. My lower wisdoms are impacted. I got my Braces on the first of Oct.

Ortho said my impacted wisdom teeth would not interfere with treatment.
No need for surgery unless they cause me problems in the future. (I'm 42yrs)

Dry the affected area, apply and let dry (holding your lip out a minute) You'll see a coating.
It will numb, is an antiseptic and will stay in place

I was braced yesterday. When the brackets were put on and I was told I could go rinse. I felt like I had straggly old teeth, like a old cartoon witch. OK, talked to my Treatment Coordinator. She said that the extra tooth wouldn't need evaluated til the end of treatment. And because I don't have any problems from it now, likely nothing will need done.

I'm happy with the Ortho I picked. I'm not nervous about what orthodontics involves.
I'm not hesitant about doing extractions if needed. Just don't have the funds to do everything at once

Yesterday my teeth hurt (crowded). I told my hubby, if I wasn't already scheduled for braces next week, I'd be getting an appointment. My top wisdom teeth are gone. But my bottom wisdoms are bone impacted.
(guess near the nerve dentist didn't think they needed removed)

My question is... Is anyone in braces that have impacted wisdoms ?

I went into the Ortho with the naive thought of 6 to 9 months.
The estimate is 24 months...I'm ready to do this. I figure the longer I wait, the longer it will take
