Re: Does it hurt when they tighten the chain after exposure?
It might depend on where your canine is in your gums. Mine was to the front and above the gum line (you could see/feel the bump where my tooth was) but I know some people have them further back or even at the roof of their mouths. I wasn't "put under" just had the usual numbing shots. I co...

Re: Does it hurt when they tighten the chain after exposure?
Mine didn't hurt at all, surprisingly. At least not the first time they tightened it (I have an appointment on wednesday and I assume they'll be tightening it again). It couldn't hurt to have some ibuprofen on hand (I usually take some after adjustments). Good Luck!

Re: How long did YOUR impacted canine take to come into plac
yeah I had just updated with the week 5 picture. I'll probably take more after my appointment next week (unless it doesn't change much) hah.
The change seems more noticeable in pictures than it does just looking in the mirror - you might want to take photos of your own to watch the progress.

Re: How long did YOUR impacted canine take to come into plac
It wasn't visible right after the surgery but you can see in the pics (the 2nd and 3rd ones showing my braces in my first post) which was one week after my exposure. you can just see a tiny tip showing. Its actually a little hard to see, it looks like a whitish blur (it wasn't good lighting). Then a...

Re: How long did YOUR impacted canine take to come into plac
well my tooth isn't down yet but I wanted to say that I had my exposure 5 weeks ago and I've updated my story with pictures to show the progress. My tooth is a lot more visible than it was after surgery so its exciting! Still no idea how long it will take before its all the way down. Can you see any...

Re: worried about my face shape changing... (with pics)
Thanks for your reply! I'm just really nervous about it and reading threads where people regretted their extractions and had horrible results, etc really freaked me out.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v481/revoltofagirl/teeth/exposure-week5.jpg week five after exposure! Look at that canine coming out!! so my appointment is next week and I've started freaking out about extracting two premolars since I've read that can lead to sunken-in cheeks and lips. I don't ev...

worried about my face shape changing... (with pics)
Through my reading of various topics/threads I've come across the problem of extractions leading to a "sunken in" face. To be honest, this freaks me out. The majority of the reason I have braces is to make myself look more attractive, not less so! When my orthodontist told me I needed some...

Re: Getting discouraged
I've had my top braces for 3 months and have barely seen any movement so I've been discouraged as well. I had an exposure surgery done on an impacted canine and within a few weeks I've started to see it slowly emerge. I think I'm an impatient person in general so this whole process is frustrating fo...

Re: Is your ortho at your dentist?
my ortho is with my dentist and I didn't have any other consultations, which I'm starting to regret. It doesn't make it any easier having the ortho in the dentist's office as they really don't have too much to do with the other (maybe they will as treatment progresses - I'm only 3 months in). I have...

Re: Salsashark's Story with pictures!
Just got back from my appointment. He gave me a bigger wire and snipped the extra chain off and "sewed" it to one of my brackets. I need to have two premolars removed to make room for my canines and incisor to come down. I had a different assistant today and when she asked what color bands...

Re: Other Benefits From Braces
I'm another former nail biter! I had actually quit as a new years resolution this year and only had a small (stress-caused) relapse before I was braced... but now I couldn't relapse even if I wanted to! :) I don't know if braces will address my neck/shoulder pain or sinus / ear issues... it'd be awe...

Re: Salsashark's Story with pictures!
Thanks Angel269! GillyWeed - the chain isn't painful YET as it's pretty much just hanging there but I imagine when he "adjusts" it, I'll be feeling differently! I was definitely sore after the exposure (they gave me Vicodin which I only took the first day as it made me incredibly nauseous ...
