The clear plastic (Essix) retainers can't really be adjusted like an acrylic and metal (Hawley) retainer. I suggest that you speak to your orthodontist or dentist about this problem. Perhaps your retainers can be re-made to be less tight.

You need to look at the entire treatment time as a process. Gaps may appear and then disappear as your treatment progresses, and it's normal.
