Re: Oldfart Orthodontic Diary

I like my Essix retainer. I don't think it looks bad at all. You've mentioned that you thought it looked "plastic-y". I only wear mine at night for now. But I have to go back because my orthodontist is going to recement the one back behind my front teeth and give me a more "active&quo...

Re: Oldfart Orthodontic Diary

Ugh. Looks like it would feel very strange. A lot to get used to, I think. :-(

Re: Oldfart Orthodontic Diary

I have an Essix retainer for my top teeth that I am supposed to wear at night. Also a cemented in upper retainer behind my top two front teeth. This thing has apparently come loose and my top teeth have now shifted and the gap has opened again. Argh! I have a cemented bottom retainer. I've never see...

Re: Sunshiney Saga

Braces off yet, sunshiney? I'm rooting for you. I hope when they finally come off you are happy with your result. Not a day goes by that I regret the 28 months I had my braces. It was worth every single moment! Best of luck!

Re: Oldfart Orthodontic Diary

What is left to do now that you have your braces off? I have been out of mine since last December. For me, it was well worth the journey but I am having some trouble maintaining my teeth. Space between the front incisors keeps wanting to open up despite the cemented retainer. Ugh.

Re: Braces after 60

I went through a similar experience -- teeth looking SO much worse before they started to look better. All I know is that, for me, the journey was SO worth it. I can not imagine going through life with teeth that looked like mine did before I got my brackets. Hang in there. It will all be worth it a...

Re: Braces after 60

AnnB550 I had so much anxiety before I got my braces put on I was having full-blown panic attacks that were waking me up at night. Right after I had them put on I could literally feel the anxiety melting away. I was shocked to see how much smaller they were than what I had envisioned them to be. Wit...

Re: Braces after 60

Dee17 here again. I finally got my braces off in December 2015 after 26 months of treatment. I have not regretted it for a moment. Most of the time I thought the treatment would never end but it finally did and my smile is beautiful and I could not be happier. Recently I've had some trouble with the...

Re: Musings on a year in braces

You could be right about that, plugnickel. The fixed retainer on top is only behind the two front incisors. The one on the bottoms covers about 8 teeth. I thought it was kind of strange that he ordered it this way considering that my original problem was a ginormous gap between the two top incisors....

Re: Musings on a year in braces

Oh, I hear you on the flossing hassle. I am still having to use floss threaders and thought I'd be able to give those up. Probably won't ever be able to give them up. I was going to ask my orthodontist if he would remove the fixed upper retainer but I know he will say no because the space in my fron...

Re: Musings on a year in braces

I have a fixed retainer behind my two upper front teeth and behind my six bottom lower teeth. The one on the top drives me CRAZY because if I don't have my retainer in I can feel it constantly. Ugh. :-(

Re: getting Braces at 42

I know what you mean. Mine cost $6,500 but it was SO worth it! You will never regret this decision... well, maybe a little bit as you try to master the art of flossing with braces! Sheesh, not fun, my friend. Good luck with that!

Re: getting Braces at 42

Probably not much pain, I wouldn't think. I had an enormous space between my two front teeth and wore braces for 26 months. I had virtually no pain whatsoever. Best of luck on your journey!
