Re: Morning Retainer Loveliness

Certainly NOT thrush. After speaking to friends with retainers it seems like a norm. I never said my breath and/or mouth smelt bad, I said the retainer did and only once it's removed. I'm getting used to it now, so it's not as much of a problem. I maybe do mouth breathe and I'm unaware of it. Think ...

Morning Retainer Loveliness

Hello I just wanted to ask whether this is just me or not. When I take out my retainer in a morning, the smell is absolutely RANCID. Only when I take it out though, beforehand it's all good. The retainer (essix) also seems to be full of saliva that has turned an off-white colour too and I guarantee ...

Re: How has your routine changed living with retainers...

As much as I love not having braces, the retainer is much more hassle. I don't mind wearing it, but I hate taking it out. Not sure if it's me but when I do, there's a gross taste/smell, especially after overnight wear. I just feel like my teeth are going to slowly decay and I'm going to get a ton of...

Re: My Braces Story!

Today is the day! They are finally coming off after 2 years (and 1 week). I haven't updated very much, or at all really, which I apologise for, BUT I will post pics later on today if I like how they look. Feels crazy thinking I posted 2 years ago with no end in sight, thinking it would feel like for...

Re: Retainer Qs

Hey LewisS, congrats on the upcoming debanding! As for your question, yes, your retainers will still fit whether they are Hawley or Essix style, since only a tiny amount of enamel is removed. Some ortho's perform this service at debanding, while others do not. You should be able to do the whitening...

Re: Retainer Qs

Why do you want to file your teeth? Teeth move to settle after braces are removed. My molars moved after the braces were removed. If you could, I would say wait at least for six months before you have your teeth filed. Because some of them are slightly longer in length and I would like them to file...

Re: My Braces Story!

UGH! Because it's almost time to get my braces removed, I like to ensure that I always have elastics. 3 weeks ago I got 2 packs of bands and I still have about half a bag left. I called up today to ask for an extra pack, just because I'd hate to run out and have to have a day without wearing them a...

Retainer Qs

So on Monday I finally get my braces off after 2 years. They almost feel a part of me and I feel so nervous about being without them. It's almost like a comfort blanket knowing they are keeping my teeth perfect. Anyways here's my questions. When I get my braces off I really want to have my teeth fil...

Re: Extraction gaps not closing

@cata - Yeah I thought that would be the case too and it would be a hotbed for bacteria with food getting stuck between the gap. I'm just thinking there's no way these are going to be closed in such a short time, especially since they have moved so slow to get where they are now! @oldfart (lol) - St...

Extraction gaps not closing

Hey So I've been given my second deband date of June 2nd and I still doubt my gaps are going to be closed by then. There are two very stubborn ones that I can fit my tongue in between. My ortho says one of them are fully closed, but surely I wouldn't be able to get my tongue in the gap if it was? Re...

Re: Hawley retainers are 'outdated'?!

I'm having the same worries. My ortho only provides Essix (I assume so since he said 'looks like a mouth guard') and I really wanted a Hawley, because in the future I want to whiten my teeth and one of my teeth are bonded, so the Essix is unlikely to fit afterwards. :Questions: I might bring that up...

Re: Elastics question

Trust me, even though you can't feel them, they're still working. I was exactly the same as you and got told off by one of the ortho assistants for using too many elastics. I loved the feeling of a fresh elastic, because it felt like it was doing something. I no longer have to wear them now, but the...

Re: Is this normal?

Here we have the National Health Service/NHS (you may have heard of it) that pay your orthodontist for the treatment if your case is severe enough and you are under a certain age. My treatment is actually almost 3 months over what it should have been, originally he estimated 18 months. Hence why I t...

Is this normal?

On Friday I was finally given a deband date (yay!) which is April 7th. Then I get my retainer fitted on April 10th. Problem is, I still have 1mm gaps on each side (which I can fit my tongue into) and my ortho seems to think those will be closed by the given date. I kinda feel a bit rushed, why could...
