Re: Braces stunting jaw growth
Just saying, orthodontia can stunt jaw growth, period. Why wouldn't it stunt them in teens. I took the time to respond with something personal I thought you might find helpful. There was no need for you to type a snotty response with a fake sarcastic "sorry" at the beginning. Don't worry, ...

Re: Braces stunting jaw growth
I was made to wear an upper plate from 4th-6th grade because my upper teeth overlapped my bottom. Now I have a slight skeletal underbite and a crossbite, but still have the overlap because my big upper teeth compensated for the limited jaw growth by flaring out even more. Three expanders later my cr...

Re: Top Braces, RPE, and Schwartz, HELP!
That seems like an unusual amount of pain. I have removable appliances and I only had one instance of sharp pain, and it came after one adjustment and I would experience sharp pain whenever I would take it out and put it back in. My ortho said sharp pain was bad and recommended that I leave it in an...

Re: New to Inman Aligners
Hey. I feel really ridiculous posting about the very minor treatment I'm having done, but dont want to bore people close to me. .. Try to focus on how much it would bore people you know. They have their own issues and problems and agendas. Anyone who notices you wearing your aligner or talking funn...

Re: For those getting braced after 35-what are your motivati
There's really nothing I liked about my smile, and I didn't even like how it looked with my mouth closed because the buck teeth caused lip strain. When I was a teen we went for an ortho consult and all they talked about were surgery, extractions, years of metal braces, maybe headgear. And I asked if...

You get used to it pretty fast, up to a point. It's embarrassing to talk with, still.coda wrote:That doesn't look like fun. I have a TPA and I've had it for a week. I couldn't imagine more metal behind my teeth like that.

Re: I feel like such a drama queen!
Hi, do you know if it exist something like your stuff to be used on the lower teeth? I think I could need it to open my bite... Hi concorde, I don't know. This was a custom modification. Because the tongue attaches in the bottom, I'm not sure how the wires would reach around. But next Monday I'm ge...

Re: The Journey has begun.
Dee, don't want to hijack the thread but your comment made me think of my unreliable speech. I hate when I've been talking pretty well and then for some reason I get all unintelligible again, and the other person is staring at me like, "Are you drunk? Did you just have a stroke?" and then ...

Re: Lingual braces AND expander
I'm on my 6th and final expander month.I had two, both all wire. The first sat tight to my teeth and I eventually got really comfortable with it. My current one has bigger, stiffer wires that cross my mouth and I still sound odd with it. bad lisp and lots of other sounds are issues too. No real pain...

Re: Lingual braces AND expander
Wow that is rough! I can't imagine how I'd talk if I also had brackets inside my teeth. I hope you won't have to have the expander too long.

Re: Herbst or Twin Block? Advice Please!!
I don't blame you. Since you will simultaneously have fixed braces, there's not really any advantage to having something removable.

Re: Herbst or Twin Block? Advice Please!!
It helps that the expander feels totally comfortable in (after the first couple of days), but when I take it out I feel a dull ache and some throbbing. Also I used to get migraine headaches and I have learned, if this is in, I will not get one. Right now it's just holding things in place for the nex...

Re: I know it's silly but concerned with face shape change
I honestly haven't even noticed a facial change with all this expansion. My appliance has these horizontal bars about a centimenter, maybe 2, long, that run parallel to, but not quite contacting, my gums. I think it is to keep my face muscles from pressuring my teeth inwards. So my cheeks are a litt...

Re: Herbst or Twin Block? Advice Please!!
I don't really remember my exact age when I wore my twin block but I was somewhere in my late twenties, and it really helped. I suspect a lot of adults just don't wear their functional appliances. They DO feel really bulky and are hard to talk and eat with at first. My orthodontist me how much I was...

Re: Herbst or Twin Block? Advice Please!!
I am with you on shopping around. I am with the 4th of 4 cosmetic dentists/orthodontists I consulted with. The first one, I explained my needs and timing, but also that I had some professional stuff coming up for which I needed to be able to have bare tooth fronts, so I needed something removable or...
