Re: insurance denied coverage due to age

Jaime, are you still on this forum? I was just denied for the same reason (older than age 19) and I want to know if the appeal could work.

Re: Anyone choose NO Surgery for an Open Bite?

Hey Cocomi - no, I do not have speech issues, thankfully. My sister does have a little bit of a lisp. I can't bite straight through things - I kind of rip my food. It makes me a slightly messy eater, but no one notices until I tell them. It honestly doesn't bother me because I don't know any differe...

Re: Anyone choose NO Surgery for an Open Bite?

I have an an open bite for most of my life and I refused the surgery for years because I had no pain or symptoms. I also don't think I look deformed the way people with a underbite or overbite do, so I did not want the change to my face. Now I am 23 and just this year started getting jaw pain. It hu...

Insurance denial

Blue Cross denied coverage of my surgery because I am older than 19, and they say the policy only goes up to 19. Is it worth appealing this? Does anyone have tips on how to file a good appeal?

Going to another city vs. inexperienced surgeon

Hi there, I am new to all this. Just decided to get orthognathic surgery and braces to fix my bite. The problem, however, is that only one oral surgeon in my city accepts my medical insurance. I just had my consultation with him, and while he was a nice guy, I am concerned that he is not board-certi...

Re: Surgery or no surgery? Stuck..

I have decided to do it. Now the problem is that only one surgeon in my city takes my insurance - and he only has 2 years' experience, which makes me doubt whether I should go with him. Did anyone have their surgery in another city? How hard, logistically, is that to do?

Re: Surgery or no surgery? Stuck..

Yes, definitely going to get a second opinion. Another thing the surgeon said that scared me was that my bite will get worse from the braces before the surgery. Is that always the case? He made it sound definite. Are there any nonsurgical treatments for open bite or just for jaw pain? Has anyone bee...

Surgery or no surgery? Stuck..

I am struggling with the decision to have jaw surgery and would love some advice. The short version is I have an open bite, it's causing me pain, but I don't know if the surgery would 1. fix my pain or 2. dramatically change my face (not a good thing in my opinion). I am 23 and have had an open bite...
