Orthognathic surgery after braces

My ortho informed me that I have a retruded jaw, that can only be corrected with orthognathic surgery. I've noticed the jaw problem ever since I was younger and have wanted to fix it. My ortho told me that I had the option of having it corrected before braces were put on. Because of the costs, I dec...

My gumholes sealed up after the extractions after about 2 weeks. The tissue grows very quickly, so they should be completely filled in by then.

Now if only I could stop getting food stuck in my BRACES!

Kissing hasn't been as big a problem as the "other" issue. My bf tells me that when he kisses me he can SOMETIMES feel my braces, but it hasn't really changed how much we kiss. I feel a bit apprehensive with the aggresive kissing though. I can't do it long because then the top brackets cut...

Goodness! You all did WAY better than I did! I did NOT handle the extractions well at all. I was put to sleep, but as I came out of the "sleep induced coma" I started crying and hyperventalating. My boyfriend kept petting my head and I kept saying, "I love you! I love you!" I was...

What are cleats? I've cut my tongue a few times on (forgive my lack of brace lingo!) the metal bands around my back molars. They're "frayed" on the bottom, sort of, and I think I'll have to ask the ortho to flatten those frays...I can't keep covering it with wax EVERYDAY! I notice that wir...

I got my braces 3 weeks ago and I was told by my ortho that I'd need rubber bands eventually.

What are they for, anyway? And do they hurt?

I only have a speech problem when I get mad! Otherwise, I talk just fine. I had a fight with my bf and I sounded RIDICULOUS. Atleast I was able to laugh at myself, which made me feel better

LOL! That's a good tip! He says that he can feel something in my mouth scratch him. And whatever it was (one of the brackets, I'm sure), left a red mark. I think it might be this one archwire that is covering an open area where I had a molar pulled. There's got to be a technique to it! LOL! It'll ju...

I've had my braces for a week too! I got them on the 15th. I dealt with the self conciousness head on. I figured, "look, I'm going to have them and I'm going to have them for awhile...I might as well grin and bear it and get used to them now." So I've been flaunting them a bit and just dea...

Kissing hasn't been much of a problem for me. My bf says he can feel them a little bit when we french....but we've been having bigger problems with another oral situation (because of the braces)....sigh

LOL Karri! I know what you mean! It's day 3 for me now and the pain is subsiding SLOWLY but surely. I tried the salt water, which offered temporary relief after attempting to floss. I've been somewhat testing the limits of what i can eat...I still can't chew ANYTHING...I just kind of suck on the foo...

Braces--first 24 hours

Hey everyone! I got braced yesterday morninig...and i just want to say that spacers were CAKEWALK compared to this...I woke up with the worst pain yet! I read that the first 24 hours hurt pretty bad, but it gets better. Anyone experience pain after getting them? Getting braces was pretty awesome; I'...

What a great thread! And very comforting! I'm getting 2 wisdom teeth and two molars removed on August 13th. They asked me whether I wanted to be numbed or put out...and of course I opted for being "put to sleep." I'm kind of looking forward to it because it's one step closer to a beautiful...

Re: orthognathic surgery

I'm a Class II getting my braces on August 31st. (Extractions on Aug 13th, spacers on Aug 22 and then braces on Aug 31---what a WEEK!). My ortho told me that my lower jaw is retruded, which I always noticed and always hated because it made my profile look weird, in my opinion. I learned that because...
