Very nice post ! I disagree with the age gap theory, and agree with whoever said it was geographical And I still stick to my original point that its age gap and not geographical (but then thats another topic - Do young people care more about how they look, their teeth, their faces etc then the older...

Well even though I have resisted quite a lot but I must add something here: IF a person gets braces for PURELY cosmetic reasons, will they feel better about themselves and have more confidence in themselves after their teeth are straight? YES - absolutely I agree with some posters that looks is NOT ...

I am sure they can, I have seen cases on this website of very twisted teeth that have finally ended up looking perfect. I myself had a tooth that was a twisted and that got fixed up, now I cant even tell if it was twisted to begin with until i see the before pics.

Good luck BracesRacer - it is quite a hard decision initially but you have done the right thing. The only thing I can say from my experience is that you will never regret it.

Dont worry Cristie, its very normal to feel pain/teeth being loose etc. when you first get braced. All you gotta think about is 1 week - in 1 week you will feel a lot better I can almost gurantee it. Take comfort from the fact that the first week is probably the most painful (atleast for me it was) ...

Does this make any sense to any one else? Yes most definitely and if you look at the replies you will notice that about 95% of the people who have posted pretty much feel the same way (including me) that braces will have a positive effect on your life. All the people who havent been able to smile o...

Some people on this forum continuously 'hijack' this post to prove a point about something. I agree with jzaboo when he says - Have another bong hit, jump onto your rainbow, and peace out, man! The discussion has just gone haywire - let me just requote my original post: Generally how has your social...

To some of the people posting: please re-read the original post, no-where does it CLAIM that braces will 100% increase self-confidence on the contrary it actually ASKS if they have resulted in any changes in self-confidence. (Note the difference between claiming and asking) Do physical 'improvements...

How have braces made a difference to your life?

This question is for people who took up the braces challenge at a later stage of life rather than as teenagers. The reason being that people who get braces after they have gone through high-school, university, job etc. have pondered/wished about having perfect teeth for a longer time and can probabl...

I am quite surprised at all the responses - I got my elastics first time 3 weeks ago to close the gaps and the ortho said to change them every 3 days? Maybe I misheard him.. does that sound normal to anyone?

I am still a little tender but mostly just my front teeth (it still feel like my teeth might pop out of my head if I bite into a sandwhich with my front teeth). Same thing happened to me and I can fully understand what you mean. Almost all my front teeth were very very loose for the first two weeks...

This is probably the ONLY question on my mind as well when I go for a regular visit but the only reply I seem to get is that the ortho likes the progress so far. But he refuses to give me some sort of hint on what he thinks the timeframe could be. Anyway, I am happy just with him saying "I like...

I think it will take approx 2 weeks to adjust to the braces. The first 2 weeks were the most hard for me - after that it has been a smooth ride (so far).

I did the same when I got my braces - once ur tongue gets used to everything then it will be fine. Wait for another week or so.
