There is nothing to worry about, safety wise. Comfort wise, it is a little more of a problem. The flaking will likely go away as your bite corrects. Some people don't even get it so I think it is just related to the way your teeth hit.

I think that if the attachment is still engaged then it is ok. If the attachment is off, call your ortho. He will probably choose to move the attachment and continue on from there. You may still have the gap. That is my experience anyway.

If you are mainly just closing gaps and aligning the bite, would invisalign be an option for you at this point? This way you could give yourself very short temporary breaks when needed (i.e. take an hour off and then back in).

The aligners move the teeth for the first few days and the roots for the rest, from my understanding. Patients are encouraged not to switch aligners too quickly so that there won't be any risk for the roots but I know some people do 10 days instead of 14 and don't have troubles.
