Re: Gap keeps reopening

Hi everyone, My fear is that I'm going to be told I'll need to wear my retainers every night for the rest of my life - which would be completely impractical. Will my teeth stop moving around so quickly? I can deal with a few nights a week though. The flat wire across the lower teeth is an interestin...

Gap keeps reopening

Have a gap that keeps opening between two teeth in the front despite best efforts to keep it closed, eg threading. Tongue push is apparently causing this I'm supposed to be nearing end of treatment, and I don't understand how this will get resolved. If the solution is wearing a retainer every night ...

Re: When you just start to feel "over it"

Once I passed the nine month mark and considered that a pregnant woman would have already had a baby in the time span, I realized this whole process is far too long. I bet in a few decades they'll have mastered this crap and I'll be able to tell stories of how I went through medieval torture back in...

Re: Bummed about back brackets

On your cheeks: Assuming you no longer have any raw sores, don't worry about the divots, calluses, and trenches being imprinted in your cheeks. They are harmless and will quickly go away when the braces come off. Oh yes, I have some fabulous troughs and divots now. I even bite on my inner cheek on ...

Re: Confess your orthodontic sins.

Fun topic! -> I don't wear the dang elastics 24/7 anymore. -> I use my WaterPik rather than brush - if it didn't exist, I'd be a goner ;) -> I stare and evaluate everyone's teeth and marvel at how much they need braces. -> I stress eat PopChips and wonder when they're going to break something - so f...

Clear elastics

Hey all, I've been wearing these really obvious box configuration elastics on my braces and I'm soooo embarassed by them in social situations - have had them on on-and-off for 5 months now and don't know how much more I can take of blowing saliva bubbles while I attempt to talk. I think they're cons...

Re: Bummed about back brackets

You guys rules - where would I be without this forum? In the pits of despondency no doubt! Anyway @samoorelaw you really helped me tackle this one - I just got the Plackers and thank god, they work for those back braces. I breathed a huge sigh of relief last night when I didn't have to perform...

Re: Yellowing teeth?

Eventually you will get a dental cleaning and they'll be able to polish up a little especially if the archwires are off.

In the meantime, I drink dark or acidic liquids with straws to spare the fronts of my teeth. That includes consuming coffee only as ice coffee btw. Has kept them nice and white!

Re: Photos and Braces, Hide them or Flaunt them?

I flaunt them - this is one really expensive grill baby! Hey, the fad is to wear metal on teeth lately and look like a goofball, eg grills on Madonna, Miley, & Katy Perry. Just think "big money" and grin :D Took me awhile to build up to that comfort level though. First months my teeth ...

Bummed about back brackets

Have any of you had the backmost brackets installed later in your treatment? (not sure if this is a standard thing or no) Just went through it and it has made wearing braces that much more tedious. I have wear grooves and gouges being made now in my cheek where the wires and last brackets rub agains...

Re: Canted Smile - help please?!

I feel you and I have an issue too...doing the elastics and hoping for the best. Sometimes wonder about TADs myself. This is all rather good advice though. We are daily scrutinizing our mouths and something about having the wires not being horizontal to the floor...makes a cant look all that more pr...

Caffeine + root pain

I was wondering if caffeine worsens pain/discomfort, especially when wearing elastics. I'm about a week out from my last appointment and was coping with mild discomfort when today it flared up significantly. The discomfort is deep within my gums at the root level. Usually the pain is concentrated in...

Re: Lose weight? Gain weight?

I concur. Definitely losing weight! Now that I think about it - all those naughty snacks I used to eat, many were crunchy and on the illegal food list for braces. LIke crusty bread and chips and sucking on hard candies. I've lost 8 lbs just this month. Also I drink a lot more water because my mouth ...

Re: Anyone get braces without spacers first?

I think some orthos still prefer the molar bands over braces - I did hear that the molar bands have less tendency to pop off so one can eat a bit more liberally with molar bands on. I've already nibbled on chips on my back teeth that are in bands.
