Steak and Braces
I have nearly all the steaks from a half of beef in my freezer and I'm trying to figure out how to prepare them. I tried grilling one and then cutting it very small but my teeth just ached by the end of dinner. This is fairly nice quality beef so it isn't especially tough and the cut I used was sirl...

Re: My braces weight loss story
I'm at about 31/2 months and I've lost about 15 pounds, in addition to braces I have an expander and it can make eating unpleasant so I have to be careful about what I eat. I also eat much more slowly now than I used to and I think that has helped.

Re: Canker Sores and Gluten Sensitivity/Celiac
When I cut out gluten (for an unrelated reason), about six years ago, I was *amazed* to discover that I stopped getting canker sores. They had been a horrible ongoing problem for me. Now if I get one it is always the result of accidentally consuming gluten, in fact it is usually my first indication ...

Re: Adults : Success with expanders??
I have an upper expander and I also found a lot of negative info online. My Ortho did show me photos of previous adult patients who have gone through expander/braces treatments and I have to say, the looked great.

Re: Adult palate expander
I've now had my expander in for five weeks and I thought I'd mention that when I turn the expander I do get the same sensations that are described for teenagers. I get feeling that is somewhere between discomfort and pain that goes directly up the midline of the maxilla to my nose. This sensation la...

Re: Braces and Weight Watchers
Thanks for mentioning the chili, one of the most difficult things is figuring out what to eat when I'm away from home. I am becoming quite the soup chef and learning how easy it is to eat a ton of veggies as soup. My current favorite is curried butternut squash and tonight I made up a batch of roast...

Re: Hole on roof of my mouth from palate expander??
Wow, I must have an inch or more of space between my expander and the roof of my mouth. I had no idea that some expanders were that close to the palate!

Re: Braces and Weight Watchers
Oh, and I've found that an excellent tool for getting things out from around the expander is those little green coffee stopper plug things they have at Starbucks. They are used to keep the coffee from coming out of the drinking port in the cup and they are just the right size and flexibility to fit ...

Re: Braces and Weight Watchers
I've been doing WW and let me tell you braces and an expander are do wonders for my loss! What I do to get all the good food is grind them up in a food processor and make them into fantastic soups! I've been getting recipes on allrecipesdotcom and it has been great, my husband even likes them. With ...

Muscle Fatigue
I'm in braces and an expander 3 weeks tomorrow. Yesterday I noticed that the muscles in my face feel fatigued and they feel that way again today. I find it really odd since I have not had an adjustment and the last time expanded was 5 days ago. The muscles that feel tired are between my cheekbones a...

I wonder if there is any harm to the gums when the wax covers bits of them for a long time. Anybody know?

Re: Does having Braces make you feel cool?
I think mine are cool too. Partly this is because it is a big deal to finally get it done (I'm 44) and partly they seem very youthful to me and I love that! The only part I really dislike is the expander, though I'm learning to cope :)

Re: Adult palate expander
I have an expander in now (two weeks today). I also read extensively online and found conflicting articles. I asked my Ortho and he says there is debate in the field about wether the expander is really expanding the palate or if it is causing bone growth that widens the dental arch. He personally th...

Re: what's the cost of your braces?
1. Where are you located? Boulder, Colorado 2. How much are you paying for your braces? 6500 plus about 1500 in x-rays, molds and various tests to figure out where my bite will end up. This includes 6-8 months in a custom expander (my mouth is unbelievably messed up) 3. What kind of braces do you ha...
