Re: adding elastics are like braces^2
I just started with elastics last week after 9 months. My ortho only wants me wearing them at night, which did give me pause, after reading some posts here about how they should be worn 24/7 except to eat and if they are not, they are less effective...so I double checked with my ortho, but was told,...

Re: Who Did?
I did. It was never something mentioned or recommended to me by my dentist. Although I never cared about my crowded, crooked lower teeth, I had been feeling for several years that my top teeth were getting more and more 'buck' as I got older, and then one front tooth started to kind of cross over th...

Re: white wires?
I have what my ortho calls "clear" but is really a white wire on my uppers...and yes, with vigorous brushing the white did rub off a bit in the very front, exposing the silver color. They do come in the square, later stage wires as well as the thinner, round, early stage wires.

Re: Spacing after Permanent Bottom Retainer?
I live in fear of this happening to me after the braces come off...I am a tongue thruster too and the plan is for bonded retainers on the backs of my upper and lower teeth. Initially, my ortho was talking 4 pre-molar extractions and I considered it, but decided against it because I was afraid that i...

Re: Archwire popped out of my bracket
One of my lower front teeth was kind of pushed back slightly behind the others, and after my second adjustment I noticed that the archwire wouldn't stay seated in the clip on that tooth...sounds like a similar issue to what you experienced. The assistant had trouble getting the wire in on that tooth...

Re: New braces
Hi new smile, I went through the same first week of being seriously concerned I was not going to get enough nutrition! I can relate! I was eyeing various protein shakes in the supermarket, etc. Things got better after about a week, once the pain subsided a bit and once I got used to the feeling of h...

Re: Tongue thrust wins
Ok It's called the Galella Tongue Habit Appliance. I'm not yet able to post links, but try a web site called orthodontictechnologies dot com (/docs/products) - it has a good description of why it's supposed to work, etc. There's also another similar looking thing called a Blue Grass Roller which has...

Re: Prons and cons - which braces to choose
I have clear Innovation-C brackets on the top and metal ones on the bottom - I asked for it this way to save $$ because I'd read that the metal ones were cheaper and I figured the bottom teeth don't show as much. I'd never heard that about the metal kind working more quickly...hmmm...I wish I had as...

Re: Tongue thrust wins
Oh my gosh.....THANK YOU! Yay! This is just the kind of thing I've been looking for online but all I'd been able to find previously were sites where you had to buy / pay for something... I've read (and it makes sense when you think about it) that the problem can't really be corrected until the open ...

Re: Poll: At What Age Did You Get Your Braces?
Age 42 was round two. Round one was middle/junior high school. After the braces came off I had retainers I was supposed to wear all day for a period of time. Although seventh grade is painful enough without having disgusting retainers to deal with in the cafeteria, I stuck with it (more or less) and...

Re: Tongue thrust wins
Hi there...I've been 'lurking' on this board for a while and have gotten a ton of helpful information in the process, as I've been in braces for about 6 months now (I just turned 43)...and your post is what finally inspired me to join! I too am a tongue thruster and I am SO afraid of having all my t...
