Re: Pain Meds After Surgery

Can't remember what they gave me in the hospital, I think morphine through IV than liquid form.. To take home was T3s in pill form. No issues swallowing them. Surprisingly the pain after surgery was tolerable. The first few days which you'll spend in the hospital are the worst. Overall not so bad.

Great results! For whatever reason also makes you look younger. How do you feel about the difference?

Re: orthognathic surgery twice?

Thanks for the reply Archwired! My head tilt is not the cause of the assymmetry. Actually its probably the other way around. I only mentioned the head tilt because when I had the initial surgery the surgeon determined that I needed to rotate the jaw 3 mm for the jaw to be level. However if we had ta...

Re: Any experiences about titanium plates in upper jaw?

I don't know anyone personally who has had them removed. I've read of people having them removed several years later due to complications like sinus infections but this seems uncommon. I've also read that in Europe it's common practice to have them removed once the bones have healed. Apparently remo...

Re: Any experiences about titanium plates in upper jaw?

Its supposed to be pretty compatible. If you don't want to keep them in for life you could have them removed after you've finished healing.

Re: orthognathic surgery twice?

Thanks for the replies. Maxhammer, I have definitely been told that before. However I'm certain the assymmetries are not really within normal range. Olive and Sarpevictim thanks for the input. I wouldn't say this issue is destroying my life at all. Thing is I've invested a lot into acheiving an appe...

Re: orthognathic surgery twice?

Thanks ReoSity and BaliGirl for the advice.

ReoSity, I think the asymmetry is somewhat obvious. It has definitely improved with surgery (rhinoplasty and jaw surgery); but it still isn't within what would be considered a "normal" or "average" range IMO.

so, from the lack of replies I should conclude that I'm crazy for considering to have orthognathic surgery twice? :)

Re: orthognathic surgery twice?

this is an image from my latest CT scan. I naturally tilt my head to the right, like in this image A.jpg if I position myself so that eyes and cheekbones are level, like in the image below, than my upper jaw is slanted horizontally so that the right side is higher, and vertically my teeth and chin a...

Re: jaw shifting/loose? 8 months post-op

If your upper or lower jaw moved you would be able to feel it in your bite. I had that crackling/grinding noise too and asked my surgeon about it. I don't remember exactly what it was, but I think it was along the lines of what suzanna already said. It must be pretty common.

Re: First Oral Sugury

recovering from jaw surgery is surprisingly less painful than you would think. the diet and the swelling is a huge pain in the ass, but the pain is definitely tolerable, especially with the pain meds :). Good luck!!! let us know how it goes!

orthognathic surgery twice?

Just wondering if anyone here has had this surgery more than once. I have been considering having upper and lower jaw surgery again. I mentioned a second surgery at a follow up appointment, and the surgeon did not recommend it because he's not confident that we could acheive the changes that I want....

Re: rhinoplasty?

my jaw surgeon specifically told me at one of two of our consults that he was not a cosmetic surgeon. I think in general maxillofacial surgeons are not cosmetic/plastic surgeons. Many of the surgeries they perform are to improve functionality first and aesthetics second. I think it would be rare to ...
