Re: weight loss

25 lbs down here in the first three months or so and have kept it off (160 to 135, 5´5"). As my ortho says, I´m getting two procedures done for the price of one!! Total strangers tell me I´m skinny and I´ve had to buy all new pants and can even wear the skinny jeans that are popular here in Eur...

Re: Honestly, do you floss?

EVERY night since getting braced! In sickness and health, at home and international travels. Nothing stops me. Oh the junk that comes out between my teeth..... My ortho, hygienists and dentist all rave about my spotless cleaning. I can´t afford to have any dental problems during this process and am ...

Re: Braces and a mouth full of crowns

I have seven crowns, all on back teeth. My ortho didn´t put brackets on any crowns yet. I think he might for working on my bite but they always have a way of figuring it out! Good luck!!

Re: fixed brace adjustments and....whimpering

55 yrs. old and been through loads of surgery, dental and other and even hubby says I have a high tolerance for pain but I DO groan and make sounds while my ortho rips away at my teeth. He just say "no mercy", smiles and keeps going. Taking a couple ibuprofen before adjustments helps some,...

Re: adding elastics are like braces^2

Good to get informed on this topic as I´m getting elastics next month. My bite is crazy bad and my ortho wants to do everything possible to make the most out of this experience! My teeth, after only five months, are basically straight :jump: , even with a lower front extraction so he is pleased with...

Re: Braces at (almost) 49

Hi all, I haven´t been here for awhile. I´m thrilled to announce that my lower center gap (extraction) is already closed after only 4 months. Of course there is tweeking to be done as there are some minor gaps between neighboring teeth but it is so encouraging to not have that huge gap anymore. It w...

Re: Facial Pain

Sorry to hear of your pain. At my second adjustment my ortho told me I definately have some TMJ issues. Then add to that the braces, an already horrible bite, some headaches and it all adds up to significant facial pain. Mine is only on one side but radiates to my ear, eye and all along the upper ja...

Re: Four teeth removed, root snapped on two :(

You are brave for even going in for more extractions. I had one bottom front extraction which fractured and it took my poor dentist 45 minutes to dig out the root. It was truly one of the worst experiences of my life (I´m 55). The dental assistant and I still talk about it! I think we were all three...

Re: Start of my braces journey at 66

Sea54Change, Thanks! After quickly dropping 9 lbs the first 9 days I decided to take advantage of the opportunity and convince myself that a clean mouth really does feel great. Also it was such an ordeal at first to brush and floss that I simply dreaded eating. So I just kept going and basically don...

Re: Start of my braces journey at 66

Marie, Each day gets better! Don´t despair. We´ve all been through it and are here to cheer you on. I just had my second adjustment and am having some strange eating again but it´s all part of the journey. There are lots of wonderful soups and other tasty soft foods. I had scrambled eggs yesterday a...

Re: Braces at (almost) 49

ToothyMonkey, I also thought kissing was done for me (30 yrs married!) but it´s getting better. I just have to tell hubby what NOT to do. My teeth are also sore all the time especially when pushing them and I don´t think I´ll be able to bite down until I´m debraced. Hang in there and look toward the...

Re: Braces at (almost) 49

ToothyMonkey, You WILL be able to eat again! And only 6 months...it´ll go so fast. This week I had my rubber band changed and the assistant couldn´t believe how quickly my gap is closing! Yippee! My gap is middle lower so very visible. Then I emailed my ortho when I got home and he wanted me to send...

Re: New braces

Welcome and glad you found the site! It is a lifeline for many of us. You are going to be amazed how soon you get used to having braces. Last night I had pizza and a softshell taco for lunch. I need to cut things into smaller bites but I can eat fairly normally now after only a month. The first coup...

Re: Start of my braces journey at 66

Marie, I also experienced the No Turning Back point with a front incisor extraction. My orthodontist said it would take about five months for the gap to close. It has already noticiably changed and even feels different to my tongue. I don´t think it´s ever to late to get teeth straightened. My ortho...
