Re: braces after gum disease

Hi - I was in similar situation. I have severe bone loss and for me, it was also a question between braces vs invisalign. I went to three orthos and two recommended invisalign because braces would move teeth much too quickly whereas there is better control with invisalign. I have started treatment a...

Re: Loose Tooth

Hi 333333 - Just wanted to check back to give you an update (2 days later!). After conferring with her mentor about my case, my ortho wants to see me tomorrow to trim my trays down (apparently they were made much higher than the norm due to my severe bone loss). And, because they are higher, ...

Re: Loose Tooth

Boy...we are definitely in the same boat and I do take comfort knowing you've passed the "one-year" mark and still have all of your teeth. As for me, this is my second week and I will be switching to new aligners this Thursday (my two week mark). With that, my teeth will no doubt become mo...

Re: Loose Tooth

Thank you for your reply. I had gum graft (upper right molar) prior to the invisalign treatment. I, too, have triangles and because of that, my ortho didn't recommend any extractions. During IPR (my first visit), I was in a panic - to me, it was a very traumatic experience. I saw my ortho today and ...

Re: Loose Tooth

Hi Everyone - Please forgive this belated follow-up but after waiting for almost a year (periodontal issues) to start my invisalign treatment, I finally started it last week! I, too, have noticed that one of my tooth is loose. It's is slightly mobile when I push it with my tongue and I'm in a panic ...

Re: Invisalign and Braces - Please help!

Dear Dr. Tam - Thank you so much for your response. My ortho appointment has been pushed out until next Thursday, October 6, at which time, I will move forward with invisalign for 12 months and the doctor will gauge thereafter to see if I'll need braces or continue with invisalign for the remaining ...

Re: Considering Braces

I would have ceramic on top and metal on the bottom if I decide to go with conventional braces.

Oh yeah, I heard back from the ortho - the combined path of treatment would set me back $7k. Ouch!

Re: Considering Braces

Thanks for the replies. I'd like to take this opportunity to apologize in advance for being long-winded... Oddly, my first ortho didn't suggest invisalign at all. In fact, I asked about it and she said I was not a candidate. Needless to say, when the second ortho suggested that I go with invi...

Re: Invisalign and Braces - Please help!

Thank you, Huggypillow, for your input. You raised a good point, things may change once treatment starts so it's best that I talk to my ortho before proceeding. Needless to say, the costs would be a huge deterrence. Either way, I plan to get braces so I look forward to being a member of this f...

Re: Considering Braces

Thank you both for responding. A lot of useful information here and some scrary stuff, too! I am definitely moving forward with braces - the question is which approach. I have not yet heard back from the ortho regarding costs - will let you know when I do. If too expensive, I will forego the combo. ...

Re: Considering Braces

Btw, would please share your "1st week" experience of getting braced? Did you experience any discomfort/pain? Are you able to go back to a normal diet?

I know I will be going down this path soon but thought I'd ask. -:) Thanks.

Invisalign and Braces - Please help!

Hi All - has anyone had both invisalgn and braces? My ortho suggested that I get invisalign for the first 12 months followed by braces for the remainder 8+ months. Aside from the fact that this approach will likely break my bank account, does it yield the same results as if you've started with brace...

Re: Considering Braces

Thanks for your repiy! I am inclined to go with the combo - and will make the final call once I have an estimate - calling the office tomorrow. I am so excited about the prospect of having braces. Having straight teeth even at my age! Nice. You've been very supportive and i am most grateful. Can't w...

Re: Considering Braces

Hi again! Just returned from my second consult. In my opinion, it went fairly well. For starters, he confirmed that I am a good candidate for braces. Woo-hoo! He also said that I can have invisalign for the first 12 months (to allow more time for my gums to get better/adjusted), then for the remaind...
