Re: Are there different kinds of essix retainers?

I found normally they are 0.02, 0.03 or 0.04 inches thick i.e. 1mm maximum. My old uppers are a bit less than 1mm and the lowers are a bit thinner. The new ones are at least double the thickness at 2mm. Really need some specific information if someone knows any specific details please!
Many thanks!

Are there different kinds of essix retainers?

My orthodontist gave me essix retainers which are sort of hard and less than 1mm thick and they feel tight and nice when I wear them. I went to an other orthodontist (I just needed a change of scene from the previous clinic) to get a spare set and he gave me these hideous retainers which were betwee...

Re: Anyone have a permanent upper retainer? Opinions?

I have upper and lower fixed retainers and essix retainers which I practically wear all day long for now, 2months after debracing. My teeth are quite prone to relapse, I had a small gap forming between my canine and the molar during the first week after the brace was removed till I had the essix eve...

Re: Veneers after braces

Hi! My lower brace got off last week with a far from perfect result due to asymmetrical positions of canine teeth, and some minor misalignment. My orthodontist said it was the best result he could achieve.......whether this is true or not I can't really tell. My dentist did some aesthetic contouring...

Re: Permanent Retainer? Will my teeth move in the meantime?

I have a problem with gagging usually. So far only the bottom brace has been removed, just two days ago. I found the bottom removable retainer very comfortable. I also have a bonded retainer. The worst part for me is while I'm putting the removable retainer in and while I'm removing it. The orthodon...

Re: Anyone with assymetrical top front teeth (incisors?)

I had to have my lower teeth contoured due to asymmetrical extractions and the asymmetrically positioned canines looked weird. My dentist said that some minor contouring isn't harmful and it did magic aesthetically as after three years in braces my lower teeth still looked ugly though a million time...

Re: Treatment longer than predicted?

I only got a brace on my lowers initially. The sentence was one year. It was removed two days ago after 3 years one week.....
I got my uppers later. The sentence was one and a half years. It's been two years three months and at least I have three more months.

Re: Molar bands

I had molar bands on my lowers for 3 years. I was quite concerned because they have large fillings and I had read somewhere it is better to avoid molar bands on molars with large fillings. The molar bands got off two days ago and the molars look fine. I have buccal tubes on my uppers even though one...

Re: Braces at 40

I'm 41. Got braced at 38. Wanted to have a beautiful smile for my fortieth birthday. Just got rid of my lower metal brace after three years and a week two days ago. The saga on my uppers continues. I had self ligating ceramics which all broke ........ now I have normal ceramics on the social 6. I'm ...

Re: Vomiting and braces..

It happened to me once. During the actual vomiting I forgot all about the braces, but I didn't enjoy washing my teeth afterwards. But I have to say that washing my granny's dentures is much, much worse.......

Re: Brushing in Public Bathroom

As someone else said I use the rest room for disabled persons when possible as usually there is a sink inside. If I have to wash my teeth in public I only use the toothbrush, no interdental brushes and definitely no flossing. The worst place to brush my teeth is during very long flights when you hav...

Re: Bottom incisor removal tomorrow! eek.....

Hi Kezza! I don't want to alarm you....but I had extremely crowded lowers and the orthodontist suggested extraction of the left lateral incisor. 5 months into treatment there wasn't enough space and he extracted the right premolar. The result is that I have a canine instead of the extracted incisor ...

Re: Ortho Not Being Truthful?

My orthodontist had said 1 year........the bottom ones were removed two days ago after 3 years and 1 week and they're not perfect at all but he said there's nothing else that could be done. Initially he had told my dentist to extract my left lateral incisor and 5 months into treatment he realized th...

Re: Do you ever "get used to" a bonded retainer?

Hi! I have had my lower brace removed two days ago and the bonded retainer and essix retainer yesterday. I still have my upper brace unfortunately... Back to the topic I'm surprised at how much both retainers are not bothering me. My speech doesn't seem to be affected much either. Maybe it will be d...

Re: Weight GAIN and braces

For snacks try eating other forms of salads for example instead of using lettuce or an other leafy veg as the base for your salad use something like frozen peas. You can add a boiled egg for the protein, some fresh tomatoes, cheese or tofu. Tofu is good to if you want to lose wait. Although beans co...
