I got mine on at 14 and off at 21. Finally had my complete smile by 22!

I had a tongue thrust both pre and post-braces. I ended up having to go to speech therapy for a few months to correct it before and after, and I'm a lot better with it now. I did find it was worse though when I had my Essix retainer than my Hawley retainer.

I'd go back and talk to your ortho as well. I switched from an Essix to a Hawley because the Essix was worse for me personally. I'd definitely call your orthodontist as they may need to make an adjustment to your retainer to keep the problem from reoccurring.
