I got mine on at 14 and off at 21. Finally had my complete smile by 22! :)

Re: Tongue Thrust problem post braces

I had a tongue thrust both pre and post-braces. I ended up having to go to speech therapy for a few months to correct it before and after, and I'm a lot better with it now. I did find it was worse though when I had my Essix retainer than my Hawley retainer.

Re: Hawley retainer adjustment

My ortho did the "tweak it and keep trying it" method, as I like to call it. Sometimes he made mine too tight, and I didn't notice it until I got home, and had to wait a few weeks to get an appointment to get it fixed. But eventually, I just had to get a completely new retainer because I ...

Re: hawley retainers after braces are horrible, i hate them!

I'd go back and talk to your ortho as well. I switched from an Essix to a Hawley because the Essix was worse for me personally. My Hawley retainer fits fine with no pressure when I put it in, although it is a new one I had made in October, but my other one still fit before I had my implant placed. B...

Re: Upper canine implants...

I'm so glad this post got bumped! I too am due for an implant and having an absolute anxious meltdown over the thought of it. To make matters worse my general dentist told me that they don't do I.V sedation here, that it gets done with a local in the chair. I'm not sure yet whether or not I'm going...

Re: Just got implant surgery! Discoloured temp tooth?

I imagine that the temp tooth will unfortunately stay that way until you get the permanent crown in, but if you're unhappy, you may be able to call your dentist to get a new one made. I say that because my dentist will make as many temporary crowns between having the temp and the permanent put on. I...

Re: Braces off! How long to adjust to bonded retainer?

It only took me a couple days to get used to it (and I have mine behind my 8 front bottom teeth instead of 6). For the first couple days, it kind of felt like something was stuck there, but after eating and drinking normally, I became used to feeling it there (and hey, it's still much better than ha...

Re: June Debrace Club!

I figured I'd update this with how everything has been going since it's been about three weeks now.. I have a Hawley retainer on top and a permanent retainer on bottom (behind my front 8 teeth, which I thought was sort of weird, but hey whatever works I guess). I started my crown procedure for my pe...

Re: One tooth keeps moving!!!

I'd definitely call your orthodontist as they may need to make an adjustment to your retainer to keep the problem from reoccurring.

Re: June Debrace Club!

I called the orthodontist today and have an appointment tomorrow morning to get new molds made for a new Hawley retainer for my top teeth, due to the discomfort the Essix is causing me (and it's also caused my tongue thrust to try to redevelop and I'm breathing out of my mouth at night because my te...

Re: June Debrace Club!

I got mine off yesterday, finally! It's been such a long journey, but it was so worth it because my teeth are straight and beautiful, and are hardly damaged even after such a long time. However, I'm very unhappy with my retainer situation. I have an Essix on both top and bottom. I've been going to s...

Re: Anything Exciting? Let's Share!

I don't know if I would want to have fillings and braces put on the same day, but you probably could have it all done in the same week. Fillings don't really hurt after about 2 days (mine have always been sore where they stick the needle to numb me), and I've gone to get an adjustment in the same we...

Re: I am offically a braceface!

Congrats on getting your braces on and glad to hear you're holding up. I've had my braces forever now & still am in a lot of pain after each adjustment (but that's probably due to the amount of bending and torquing of me wire). At least we all know that the pain is worth it in the long run for t...

Re: Toothpaste questions: Whitening, Baking soda, Sensodyne?

[quote="White Fang"]Hello everyone, 1 week and counting here with linguals on the top, and soon to be regular metal on the bottom teeth. I was using a Tom's of Maine sensitive/whitening toothpaste. I switched to Sensodyne after getting braced, as the info sheet my ortho gave me said not to...
