Hey.. that's awesone. Knowing exactly what you guys mean about the waterworks I drink the stuff almost religiously, although to be honest, i'm not really a fan. (Although it's much better with vodka! :)) It's great to know it might be helping with another of my "problem" areas as well! :) ...

Re: overjet/bite

Copying and pasting from a previous post I made in this (http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=6262&highlight=overjet+overbite) thread: Overjet and overbite are two different things. Overbite is the amount in which your front teeth cover your lower teeth. Overjet is the distance your f...

Have you considered Invisalign, or seen an ortho to see if you'd be a good candidate?

I was told by my ortho that metal brackets can be faster because they're stronger, and therefore the orthos can apply more force and get the job done a little bit quicker. Whether or not that's true, i wish i knew...

Look.. this is a site for adults, and although you say you're 26, that type of typing and your response certainly do not indicate that. I mentioned that merely to increase you chances of getting an intelligent response; the doctors here are very busy, and answer our questions on their own time and b...

Just a quick note... you might get a better response if you used real english, instead of text-message speak. All those '2's, '4's and 'c's and 'b's are really hard to read in a forum setting. They're great for the cell phone, but when there's a real keyboard, it really doesn't take any extra effort...

Congrats on taking the plunge. I like the metal braces with white ligs... that's an awesome idea! Does it reduce the visibility of your braces at all? Any staining yet?

I also don't know why you'd stop treatment. WHen you start, your ortho has a plan in mind, and just because it "looks" like it's 99% completed, it doesn't mean it is. Roots have to move, etc etc. I can undertsand not being happy with the gum result, but like your ortho said, there are ways...

Well, I don't know about teeth, but all of my dental professionals always seem to compliment me on my shoes. Then my periodontist explained to me that when they walk in to see a patient, all they see at first is the shoes and the back of the head. Personally, i think they teach them to compliment wh...

I'll concur on that point. Although I've accepted what I've got and am doing something about it now, I'll admit i still cringe when i hear (err, see) the term. I'm sure no offence was intended (and I hate being the type to try and enforce political-correctness, because normally it doesn't bother me ...

Re: normal/standard overjet

In this thread http://www.archwired.com/phpbb2/viewtopic.php?t=7256 Dr. J says 1-2mm is a normal overjet. I have a 5 mm overjet. What is considered a normal/standard overjet. I know the upper teeth should close to be in front of the lower teeth and was wondering what is an acceptable overjet that wo...

Well, as a Canadian, I'll be out $15000 for everything. That includes about $8000 for 3 years of braces, $6000 for lower jaw surgery, and another $1000 for a couple crowns. I did not ask my surgeon about how he gets paid, either (upfront, or...). Insurance covers nothing of mine, at all. (well, tech...

I haven't even gotten my braces yet (grrr... life situations getting in the way at the moment) but my story is so similar to everybody else's. My entire childhood was filled with the hurtful teasing and exclusions kids are so good at. Because of the huge overjet and overbite i have, I've ALWAYS avoi...

I dunno, but maybe it has to do with the cost effectiveness of the whole process. Regular brackets are mass-produced (IIRC, linguals are individually made, hence the reason why they're so expensive), and maybe it's just not economically sound to make them out of nicer more cheek-friendly material fo...

Actually, 4cm is 40mm! (or almost 1.6in!) I'm hoping the original poster meant 4mm... otherwise.. well, wow.
