Re: Male Adult getting braces - impact on single life??

Um, YEAH! I'm almost 2 years in at this point, and I've received zero criticism, nor has it affected my confidence in any way. I still like my braces! My teeth are almost entirely straight, and they look great with the brackets, colored ligs, and wire. I'm doing my best not to sound offensive or co...

Re: Male Adult getting braces - impact on single life??

i use to be confident before i had these pieces of metal glued on to my teeth. i talk, look and feel like an idiot with braces, lots of missed opportunities. Get over it, man. Braces are cool as F. They're a status symbol. Thats the way you should look at it anyway. I don't want mine off anytime so...

Re: Dance competitions and braces

I don't compete, but I am a ballet dancer, and the dance world is filled with people with braces, (to the point where I wonder why you even have to ask!) so you have absolutely nothing to worry about there.

And sure, I'd say go ahead and match your ligatures to your dress.

Re: Can i order my own ligs?

Yes, thats what I did. I ordered a big bag from ebay (the guy even let me choose all the colors) and bring them to my appointments. I figured there'd be a small chance that my ortho wouldn't want to use them for one reason or another, but she and the assistants don't have a problem with it. $10 well...

Re: Male Adult getting braces - impact on single life??

I've come to believe that most women will take you at your own estimation of yourself. If you think you look like a nerd, then that's the flavor they'll pick up on. If you act like the man you are, then your braces can go from something embarrassing to something attractive, as they make you stand ou...

My girlfriend is getting braces too!

I've had mine for 10 months, and have shown a lot of progress. My girlfriend is an oral surgeon's assistant, and her boss offered to pay for her to get braces. She has been giving it consideration for at least a year, and now that he offered to pay, its a no-brainer. Her consult is in about a month,...

Re: Just popped yet another bracket

Haven't popped any more yet. (but had a wire shedding me for a while that I had to go in and have trimmed) Still with the college. But last time they repositioned a few brackets I was concerned about and I'm feeling better about things right now. Just trying not to pop any brackets before the 3 day ...

Re: Have any of you clipped your own wire(s)?

I had this problem, and so I bought some tiny wire cutters and did so, on two seperate occasions. It was the right thing to do, because my ortho doesnt repair popped brackets until your next regularly scheduled appointment. So by cutting the wire, I saved myself a trip to the ortho, because all they...

Just get one. Any waterpik. I wouldn't want braces without one.

Just popped yet another bracket

That's 8 brackets in 7 1/2 months. As usual, it happened for seemingly no reason at all, just as I was sitting here talking on the phone. It was my 2nd molar on my bottom left. Last month I popped the same bracket on the other side. Getting so tired of this, and I am to the point where I officially ...

Re: What to stock up on

Buy a Waterpik. I could elaborate, but instead, let me just say that cleaning food out of your braces will be a constant issue, and a waterpik is the perfect solution. I use mine 3 times a day. I can't imagine having braces and not having a waterpik. I brush my teeth with an electric toothbrush, and...

Re: What are the chances...

Yeah, I go to a university clinic (but am being treated by faculty rather than students) and the problem is that they're blatantly overbooked at all times and don't want to make the time to fix all those popped brackets. The customer service there really is pathetic. I wait for 45 minutes every sing...

Re: What are the chances...

My story is pretty much the same as yours. Popped one on the way home from my first visit, and one or two more by the time I had returned later that day for repairs. I've popped 7 brackets in 7 months, none of which were due to anything I did. Apparently my teeth are pretty smooth, and the glue didn...

Re: Dentist appt. vs ortho appt.--EEK!

I can understand why someone would have a great deal of anxiety before having some drilling done or teeth pulled, (and of course, plenty of anxiety before braces!) but as for a cleaning, I can't imagine why you'd get to the point where you're that terrified over just getting your teeth cleaned. Mayb...

Re: Does having Braces make you feel cool?

I was born in 1980, and it seemed like throughout grade school and middle school, "everyone" had braces. So to me, traditional metal braces (like the ones I have) remind me of the 80's, which I love. (I love anything 80's; as I write this, I'm wearing a Masters of the Universe T-shirt) On ...
