Re: 3 and 4 mth update

Looking a lot prettier and younger, but would be nice to see the same pose in before and after for a true comparison :)

Re: How much is speech affected?

My speech was affected when I had an expander put it, had lots of trouble talking properly and saliva build-up was ridiculous. Got used to it tho, but when the gap started developing I also developed a bit of a lisp. Braces don't seem to have affected anything whatsoever in terms of speech. And have...

Re: small lips (pictures)

This will probably get me banned but someone has to say it so — It’s definitely you, shanalouis. You spend a tremendous amount of time posting vague, often absurd questions and seeking validation . Perhaps you would do better to see a therapist to figure out what your issues are rather than trying ...

Re: Can a protuding lower jaw make you look skinner?

It's the swelling. In the second picture she's only 35 days post-op and she had upper and lower jaw surgery. There will still be a lot of swelling at this stage. Even at 4 months post-op, I still had swelling. It wasn't until 6 months, that things started to get more defined. Every month you will n...

Re: facial changes going into jaw surgery?

I have been told by my orthodontist that things will get worse before they get better. To overcome the problems with bite, teeth align themselves in different ways, braces put them the way they should be which makes the problem more noticeable. In my case (underbite) the lower teeth will get pulled ...

Re: whats more dangerous

Well jaw surgery is cutting through bone and around vital nerves, making it the more major surgery with more risks involved with a much longer recovery time. If your concern is purely aesthetic then maybe the nose is more dangerous since a lot more artistic integrity is required from the surgeon?

That sounds terrible. Have you asked your ortho/surgeon for any advice?

How do you respond to anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin/ibuprofen?

Re: nose shape post jaw surgery

Did you choose not to have this alar cinch? I'm looking forward to having my nose turned up a bit (it's a bit flat imo), but don't really want it to become wider... I had this stitch done, my surgeon didn't ask me if I wanted it or not. I don't really think my nostrils are any wider but just a litt...

Re: Orthognathic Surgery

I knew about it from the age of 18, but didn't bother investigating treatment options 'til I was in my early 20s, when my underbite started to get particularly problematic... But I chickened out of treatment because I was afraid of braces!! Until I realised that 18 months of braces was better than ...

Re: nose shape post jaw surgery

I had a three-piece lefort I where my upper arch was expanded and moved forward very slightly (~1mm), and it did change my nose shape. My nose tilts up slightly more now and the bottom of my nose has widened a little bit. This combination makes my nostrils a lot more prominent now. Even though almo...

There's a really good surgeon at Essakane, which is about 40 miles north of Timbuktu in the West African country of Mali.

Re: nose shape post jaw surgery

The nose would be more tipped upwards, and possibly wider. But not 'bigger' in appearance from all the cases I've seen. Usually it becomes more balanced and less flat.

Re: Should I have genio as well? (pics)

It does appear on the bottom picture that you are still somewhat deficient in the lower jaw, the one on the top looks a bit unfeminine however (maybe it's the lack of long hair). Maybe these predictions aren't all that accurate tho. I would probably go with the genio, it usually provides a nice bala...

Re: So I think I was lied to...

I'm trying to avoid this becoming a collection issue. I don't need that type of problem. But I do want answers as to why the surgeons office told me I could go a head and schedule surgery when they got the denial notices a week before they told me to come to schedule surgery :-/ You probably won't ...
