Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

Yup, chewing does feel strange! It does feel like my teeth squash into my jaw a bit and I need to be careful and slow as I chew. I believe it's partly to do with the numbness. Chewing does get easier over time I've found. Enjoy your food! :D

Re: Loose teeth????

Hi Shutmymouth, I'm afraid I don't know about it myself, but a quick google shows that yes it is a concern but it is also treatable and even simply resting the affected teeth (!?) will firm things up. Back to a liquid diet maybe? My new bite means that my upper incisor is now being pressed o...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

It has gone quiet in this thread... 'Thought it high time to add something :) It's almost seven weeks for me. Within the last week all my stitches dropped out/disappeared, which makes things much more comfortable! Tomorrow I'll go back to the hospital to get my teeth 'cleaned' to remove the staining...

Re: 1 year post-op, swelling

Hi Qunice, I saw a YouTube vid the other day about the after effects of nose surgery (I'm a little obsessed with my swollen nose at the moment). Anyway this plastic surgeon said that the swelling from nose surgery can take TWO YEARS to fully diminish. I'm only a few weeks in myself but it's the swel...

unhappy with widening nostrils

I think the stitch holding my nostrils together may have dissolved because my nose is getting quite wide. I know this should be a superficial thing but i'm really not happy with it at all. Has anyone experienced this and have they confronted thier surgeon with it? Can anything be done, like having a...

Re: Has anyone tried facial exercises and do they work?

Hi Class3underbiteboy, it is nothing major and could also be partly due to swelling. I noticed slightly more 'jowlage' because my face has shortened a bit and was curious to hear what others have experienced/done about this. It's not like my face is 'melting' lol! :D

Re: 1 year post-op update - still slight swelling but worth

A reassuring post Aviv16! To know there can still be swelling after a year means we just have to be patient. I'm now 6 weeks post op and my nose is huge and getting wider. I think the stitch that was holding my nostrils together has gone... So it is good to read that it is realistic to still have sw...

Re: Introduction

Hi there leeann001, Spend time reading these posts to give you a feel for what you can expect. It shouldn't put you off, just give you a realistic picture. It really helped me a lot and still does. Stock up on soups and foods that can easily be blended. Drinks too. And tissues! Figure that you'll be...

Has anyone tried facial exercises and do they work?

I've been looking into this to combat slight sagging caused by jaw reduction (and possibly the swelling too). I've read about Eva Fraser's exercises and how good they are - anyone out there have experience with this? Does it work? Can anyone recommend any good exercises? Thanks, Sams :)

Re: lefort and gummy smile

Hi all, I'm 37. No one told me about the potential for face-sagging because of a jaw-reduction. I had noticed a change in my face shape with a squarer jawline and more rounded jowls. I concluded that the muscles need to re-adjust to the new shape and I think over time the sagging will ease (I've alr...

Re: Just had Orthognathic Surgery 1 week ago.

I'll be 6 weeks post op next Tues and my stitches are still firmly in place and showing no signs of dissolving. They can be a little sore at times too so I'm going to try the salt-water rinses, see if that helps - good advice!

Re: How long before making a decision

I ummed and ahhed about it for about a year! I did a lot of research and read countless blogs and this encouraged me to go for it. I felt 'prepared'. I think the final push was when the health insurance company didn't hesitate to agree to pay for it - a sign that it was needed!
