Re: Upper Jaw surgery only - numbness
I had a Lefort only. I'm 10 weeks post-op and still have some numbness. My entire upper lip was numb for several weeks. The feeling returned slowly in stages. Immediately after surgery my entire face, aside from my lower jaw, was numb but it wore off 1-2 weeks post-op.

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
Yesterday was my one month post-op anniversary as well. I'm cleared for minimal soft chewing but I haven't done it yet. I've gotten so used to not chewing that I don't even think about it.
My Septum is still in place, but I still have congestion issues.

You look amazing! Is there a difference between 4 months and 8 months or is that just the angle? Are you happy?

Re: Pain Meds After Surgery
I had liquid Percocet at home and Morphine through the IV in the hospital. I've seen others say they were given liquid Vicodin for at home use. I'm sure if you're wired or banded shut it will be liquid. I was banded, so no pills were going in. I'm pretty sure you can request liquid, as well and even...

Re: Lefort 1 Surgery...just getting started
I had an open bite and had braces to correct it for the first time years ago. My ortho, at that time, told me that I may need surgery to close my bite, but then proceeded to move my teeth as if I declined surgery. After my first treatment in braces, which lasted about 2 years, the bite appeared to b...

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
Yesterday , I had my 2nd post-op appointment. I complained to my surgeon about my congestion and inability to breathe out of one nostril since the surgery. I also told him how that one nostril was closed off when you shine a light into it, while the other one appeared perfectly normal. As it turns o...

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
Today marks 2 weeks post-op for me. I wish I could say time is flying, but it's not :? . This has been the slowest 2 weeks of my life. The diet change has helped me get more energy, but I'm still not normal. I've been going out more trying to get back into a normal routine. I still have a lot of swe...

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
Had my first post-op visit today. They rinsed me out, took pan and ceph x-rays and changed my elastics. I can now eat soft foods as my OS wants me to attempt to put back on the weight I've lost. I'm down 11.5 lbs in 8 days  . I think it will be hard to gain weight, as I was a pretty active ru...

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
I started drinking from a plastic cup on post op day 3. Drinking water from a syringe was gross. The taste of rubber was repulsive.

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
Im banded but can suck in applesauce and mash potatoes. I have some I'm about to devour now! I can't wait for looser bands or to be able to take bands off to eat.
I think I turned the corner. Still tons of swelling but I'm feeling better

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
Awags, I had a similar reaction to the antibiotics. No diarrhea but they just made me nauseated and gave me the chills. I took myself off of them until the surgeon calls me back. I only had the upper jaw done, but one wouldn't be able to tell. My swelling is unimaginable, probably one of the worse I...

Re: December 2011 Surgery Buddies??
Hi buddies, I had surgery yesterday. Upper only, it took almost 4 hours. I was out of it yesterday so they're making me stay an extra night in the hospital. I was in excruciating pain yesterday and was so nauseated that I couldn't even drink. The nurse gave me water through a syringe & I remembe...
