Just impacted, no other movements forwards or backwards, or any expansion. They told me before the surgery that it doesn't 'usually' change the nose - but it did in my case. It may well not in your case - I think advancements are supposed to have the biggest impact on the nose, rather than impaction...

If it helps, I had done exactly what you're considering having done, and had to make exactly the same decision. I was told that I didn't have to have the upper surgery if I didn't want it, but it would increase the likelihood of a better aesthetic outcome - to correct a cant, gummy smile and help wi...

Would anyone mind sharing their post-surgery swelling pics?

Hi gang I went for my 1 year checkup today, just for a chat about how things were going, and for me to give my surgical team feedback on how I think they could have done things better. While I was there, they asked me if I would do them a big favour and go along to one of their group sessions and ch...

I don't understand the appeal of veneers in the first place - why in God's name would you haver your own healthy teeth shaved down to have something temporary stuck over the top? If veneers were the same shape, size and colour as real teeth, and were permanent, never needing to be replaced, I could ...

Impossible to predict as everyone's teeth move at different speeds and everyone's starting arch is different. I was quoted 12 months in braces, then surgery, then 12 months in braces. It ended up being 26 months in braces, then surgery, then 10 months in braces. Most of the time in braces before sur...

As I said in my post, I was told to wear full-time for 2 weeks then night-time only afterwards. Ortho opinions seem to differ quite a lot on this. I'd hate to have to wear Essix full-time, the having to take-and-and-clean-teeth every time you eat or drink anything is a real pain, and it makes it dif...

I think my upper molars are trying to extrude..

I was debraced in June and went into upper and lower Essix with a lower bonded retainer. I wore the Essix full-time for 2 weeks and then switched to night-time only (as instructed). In the last few weeks, I have noticed that when I put my upper Essix in at night, my front 4 teeth don't really fit in...

If you needed jaw surgery, it would be covered on the NHS. Not sure if you are worried from a financial or medical position, but there's no need to worry on the money front. Having been through double jaw surgery (including having a receded chin brought forward), I'd say there's not too much worry a...

Good Lord. My post-op instructions, in their entirety, were:
"soft food 2 weeks, avoid contact sports 6 weeks".
That was it!

4 weeks post-op is far too early to get worried about non-union - at this stage, everyone will have non-union! Bone starts to knit after 6-8 weeks. Ask if you're worried, but you'll probably be told to wait and see.

I wonder if they just ignore UK orders - I ordered some last June in time for surgery in August and never heard a peep from them despite sending followup e-mails and leaving voicemail messages. I filed a claim with Paypal and got my money back. Around the time that I ordered, they apparently left th...

With the palm faced to the side.. otherwise it would be the same, regardless of how many fingers you had in there!

At 11 months post-op, my ROM is a stonking 2 finger widths.. but then, that's what it was pre-op, too 8)

Custom sports mouthguard

I was debraced last week, and asked them to make me a custom Proform mouthguard for roller derby. I picked it up today and WOW! The difference between that and my old boil-and-bite mouthguard is amazing. It hugs my teeth like a rubbery pair of gloves, and I don't have to clamp my teeth down to stop ...

I had a labret for 10 years but took it out about 4 years ago. I still have a little hole under my lip, which hasn't really changed much in outward appearance since I removed it (except that the hole itself is now closed). It's not really very noticeable though - nobody notices it, unless I point it...

All non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDS) will reduce inflammation and pain, by decreasing prostaglandin synthesis. Prostaglandins cause swelling and increase pain, but are also important for tooth movement. I think it's important to bear in mind, though, that your teeth will be moving cons...
