Re: I think I might be getting a TMJ Issue

pain in my jaw, headaches and neck aches are some of the symptoms I have with TMJ dysfunction. Other symptoms can be clicking of the joint on opening or closing, deviating of the jaw on opening, or a reduced jaw opening amount. The dentist I have seen for my TMJ measures the jaw opening amount by ta...

Re: Problems biting tongue while sleeping

I have had problems with biting the right side of my tongue in my sleep while undergoing orthodontic treatment for my TMJ. The problem first began as soon as my 24/7 lower splint was removed, and my lower jaw was positioned more over to the right while wearing my splint than it was positioned when I...

Re: Jaw pain with retainers

What type of retainers do you have? Do they cover over the biting surface of your teeth? Do you think they are altering your jaw position while you are wearing them?

Re: Wrong Estimate

Actually the total charge was $440 and my insurance covered some of it. In England the dentist is supposed to make it clear to the patient what a treatment will cost them before carrying out the work. I'm not sure how it works with dental insurance treatment, but I think they normally tell the pati...

Re: Wrong Estimate

Hi Jill, I'm not in the USA, and don't have dental insurance either, but to me $300 sounds like a lot to be charged for 2 fillings, especially if they are small fillings. It's more than I would expect to pay in where I am in England for a private dentist to do 2 small fillings, and that's without an...

Re: Anyone NOT regret their extractions?

I am reading some of the bad extraction stories in horror. How could an ortho not see extractions could create jaw problems? Isn't ortho supposed to take potential jaw problems into consideration when he treats a patient? I mean, doesn't orthodontics involve study on jaws? I had orthodontics as a c...

Re: Uneven sides, ortho tells me it's normal

Your problems with your orthodontist sound similar to problems I had with mine, and mine was doing functional orthodontics to treat my TMJ dysfunction, which is supposed to be taking the skeletal alignments into consideration. I also heard stuff like I haven't finished yet, or I'll do that bit later...

Re: Lower incisor extraction

I have had a lower incisor removed, and the gap was closed with braces, as the incisor was already a bridge tooth anyway. It didn't really work out in my opinion, as it moved my lower canines closer together so that they no longer meet the upper canines correctly My lower canines are now under my u...

what to expect for a written treatment plan

What sort of written treatment plan would be reasonable to expect for orthodontics? My treatment plan was very vague, so I am wondering how usual that is. My treatment plan says 'orthodontics, fixed braces, and gives the estimated time of treatment, and then says retainers with the estimated time fo...

Re: In braces for 12 years straight, and now toothless smile

Hi Betsy, I have been having orthodontic treatment for the purpose of helping my TMD. I have been having the ortho with a Functional orthodontist who has a special interest in treating the TMD. Have you seen a Functional orthodontist who specialises in treating the TMJ for an opinion? I know they ar...

Re: Frustrated Need Opinions

Hi Chaplains Assistant, I have been having orthodontics to treat my TMJ dysfunction. I don't believe that all dentists would have done orthodontics the way yours has done to treat the TMJ. There are dentists who do functional orthodontics in adults to treat the TMJ by expanding the arches instead of...

Re: Facial proportions, need advice please [pics]!!!

To me your mandible looks smaller in photo B, than it does in photo A. I think the best way to diagnose and see what is going on is with a Ceph XRay of the head and neck, as you can see what is going on structurally with an XRay. I had a Ceph XRay done before my starting orthodontic treatment as par...

Re: osteonecrosis of the jaw (ONJ)

I don't know but may be, reading that you are worse than before surgeries, it will help you. This italian guy (he was a single patient of malocclusion as we are now) created a system with bites/splints to achieve a lot of problems including TMJ's. Follow the link. http://www.occlusionegravita.it Hi...
