Re: End is looming, concerned...

Today was supposed to be my "lets do impressions for retainers" day but the final tweaks they made at my last adjustment seemed to be making things worse rather than better and I wasn't happy with my lowers. I mentioned this to my orthodontist and I ended up being there for an hour with a ...

Re: Job Interviews & being a "mature" braces wearer

I'm 46. I went thru a successful job search this spring for a senior technical position. Braces were a non-issue. Nobody obviously noticed or commented on mine. Of the 4 people on my team, 2 of us are in braces, although the other one is just out of college.

Re: Did you run over time?

I'm at the 30 month mark now after a 24 month estimate. Still trying to close some stubborn gaps. There's no deband date yet in sight although I keep being told that its getting closer. I suspect its another 6 months or so. I've been going for adjustments every 2 weeks since February to try to speed...

Re: How does rotating the teeth really work?

Same for me, except I had 10 months of very little movement before things moved in the 11th month.

Re: Is it possible to intrude top and bottom teeth with brac

I have a deep bite, primarily because my bottom front 6 teeth are much taller than my other bottom teeth, and as a result I have significant wear on the back/tongue side of my upper front teeth. Also have crowding on the bottom that needs more space, and gaps on the top that need to be closed. I'm n...

Re: Is it possible to intrude top and bottom teeth with brac

Timing - I really don't know. The initial estimate he gave me was that I'd get my lower braces on 6 months after my uppers and the whole process would take 18 months. Well, its been 15 months so far and I'm just about to get my lowers on Tuesday, so I'm guessing I have another year to go. Most of th...

Re: Is it possible to intrude top and bottom teeth with brac

He used a stainless steel archwire with some bends in it back by my molars. The bends aren't visible once the wire was inserted, but I watched him manipulate the wire so I know they are there. I've had this configuration for 4 months, and it took about 2 months before there was any noticeable change...

Re: Is it possible to intrude top and bottom teeth with brac

Yes. I have a deep bite and that is exactly what my ortho is doing. I got my top braces on a while ago and now that my front 6 teeth are appropriately intruded, I will be getting my bottom braces on at my next adjustment Tuesday to start intruding my bottom teeth.

Re: Molar DErotation in class II

All my teeth have been moving slowly. Guess I'm just lucky that way :-)

It's just been brackets, wires and metal ties instead of ligs on those teeth. No other special hardware.

Re: Molar DErotation in class II

It can take a LONG time. My upper 2nd premolars are rotated and they have been SLOW to move. One of mine took 11 months to derotate, and the other one is being even more stubborn - after 13 months still has some more to go.

Re: WOOHOO!

Mine only hurt for a few days after an adjustment... but then there's another round of pain 2 or 3 weeks later! Anyone else get that? I get that. Its usually 2 weeks to the day after my adjustment, I get a day or two of soreness. Its much less intense than the soreness immediately following an adju...

Re: bracket fell off, cant't get it fixed for at least 2 wee

I had a bracket on my last molar pop off a few hours after a regular appointment. I called right away, and they said since it was on the last molar, I shouldn't worry about it and they would fix it at the next appt (4 weeks away). If it was a different tooth, they would have had me come in right away.

Re: Day three, braces at work...

I was a little uncomfortable the first few times I brushed at work, but now its no big deal. There's a few other brushers around, so I'm not the only one. However, there's one guy who uses so much toothpaste and brushes so vigorously that he ends up with his whole hand covered in foam, with some of ...

Re: To Brace or Not To Brace

I'm 43, and got braces for the first time about 2 months ago to fix a deep bite, some gaps on the top and some crowding on the bottom, but nothing really severe. My daughter got braces around 15 months ago, which got both my wife and I thinking about it. My wife started a year ago and will be done n...

Re: Lump behind my front teeth after gap?!

When my daughter had her braces put on, the orthodontist told us she would need a frenectomy at the end of her treatment to remove excess skin/gum between her 2 front teeth. I think this is done surgically sometimes but our ortho said it was just going to be a quick zap with a laser. We are still qu...
