Issues/Risks/Dangers of putting braces on a second time?
Hi everyone, I had jaw surgery and braces to fix my bite, and although it looks beautiful, there's a few things I would like fixed: 1 - Tiny gap between my two front teeth. Ortho has tried to fix it though morphing my retainer and things and adjusting the wire behind my teeth but nothing 100% fixed ...

Normal to have residual swelling a little over two months?
Hi everyone, I had my double jaw surgery a little over two months ago, I am really loving the result! The one thing though that I find really noticeable is that in pictures you can clearly tell there's residual swelling in the cheeks and around the sides of the nose. How long does this last usually,...

Re: Female / 24 / UK - Getting Fixed Braces
Hi there!! I noticed way back, I mean wayyy back on your posts from the beginning that you were in question as whether to get gum grafts before or after your orthodontics. Would you mind letting me know how that ended up going? Did you get it before or after your braces, and, if you got it after, di...

Re: What about non surgical options to upper jaw widening?
Hi Braceface46, as others have mentioned, you will want to go with the surgical route. That said, I have never heard of anyone being suggested to get the bottom jaw reduced; it's usually the top that that gets expanded to fit into the bottom jaw. In addition to that, if you're a guy anyway, you'd re...

How long did it take for you to close your lips properly?
Hi there,
I had double jaw + genio and I'm wondering how long it took for you to close your lips properly (without looking like you're going in for a kiss!)
Thanks!

Re: Is it normal for TMJ to get worse when you have braces?
Hi there! Yes, has Marisama mentioned, it does get worse before it gets better. What's happening is your teeth are being formed to where they should be as if your jaws were already corrected. This is beneficial in two ways: First, it means you need less treatment time after surgery! Secondly, and mo...

Re: Surgery scheduled- thinking of backing out
DRG, The anesthetic will be fine; My dad is who in his late 50's (I think now he may even be 60?) has had several instances of "going under", most recently last year when he had an accident where his bicep muscle literally ripped off his bone. They had to open up his arm and re-attach the ...

Can you pull the down the top jaw down with elastics?
So, I had a major yawn with a muscle spasam at the same time so I couldn't suppress the yawn all that well. My mouth opened a bit (nothing big like a finger length or anything) and I heard no cracks or anything, but I felt a pulling on the back part of my top jaw. No pain or anything after the fact,...

When were you able to start brushing your teeth normally?
Hi all, when were you able to start brushing your teeth normally after double jaw surgery? I haven't learned how to put the elastics back on yet so I have yet to brush on the inside of my mouth for two weeks, but on the outside I've been doing it since about Day 6.
Thanks for your insights!

When should one start Jaw Exercises?
Hi everyone, when is the average time one would start doing jaw exercises? I haven't been instructed to do it just yet however tomorrow I'll be 14 days post op and I see some start doing it almost one week in. Any insights? Thanks!
