Re: February 2011 Buddies!!!

I saw my ortho on Monday and got my two loose brackets glued back in place. What a difference that made! Later that evening my bite was already much more comfortable. Looks like these rubber bands are doing their job quite nicely. Also, I'm very proud to report that today I have dominated some Taco ...

Re: Going crazy!!! Were you sure you wanted surgery?

I spent at least ten years considering it before I finally got fed up and pulled the trigger. I went through a handful of consultations in 1999, but eventually talked myself out of it. A year or so later, I discussed it with my dentist who set me up with a different OS to speak to. I let that fizzle...

Re: February 2011 Buddies!!!

DRG, (H)ow much lower jaw/lip numbness do you have 30-some days in? And how long did it take for you getting used to being wired shut? I'm asking because I have to make the IVRO vs BSSO decision pretty soon, and at this point I'm leaning towards IVRO because everyone with a BSSO seems to end up wit...

Re: NO SURGERY for me :(.

How much extra would the Ortho have to charge before I didn't think this was a great idea?

Re: Please Help!!...Trouble breathing after surgery (nasal)

If you can't take doing charades any longer, but aren't ready to talk either...I would highly recommend getting yourself a white board. I found one at Target along with a magnetic eraser. Or as others have posted here (in the pre-op supply list thread) the dry erase markers that have erasers built i...

Re: NO SURGERY for me :(.

Now, I will just have to figure out also if I am getting my braces done in the Dominican Republic or if I should get them done in the USA.
Wait, really? Braces in the DR? Do you plan to spend a year or more down there? Flying in for Ortho appointments every five weeks? How would that work?

Re: Please Help!!...Trouble breathing after surgery (nasal)

I agree with the sentiment posted (in a different thread I believe) that it wasn't the pain from my surgery that was the problem, it was the discomfort. I went through the very same things, as I was wired with my splint in place I could hardly get any air when my nose was clogged. While I was in the...

Re: February 2011 Buddies!!!

I got unwired yesterday! I'm 34 days post-op, so it was 33 days yesterday. It almost didn't happen as they didn't put my appointment in for the right day. Clearly the doctor and I had made arrangements for it to take place yesterday, but the front desk had it one week later. So I stood at the front ...

@ puglover - I see that you currently just five posts to your name. The magic number is seven, set by the Board Admin. Just post a couple more replies to qualify your account and you should be good to go.

Re: Jaw opening: how far, how soon?

I am not speaking from personal experience yet, give me a few more days and I'll be in the same boat as you, Bullfighter. My OS had told me that a primary issue with range of motion is scar tissue. I can't entirely understand it myself, as in just how the scar tissue restricts movement. I need to se...

Re: how much weight did you lose with your surgery?

I am just shy of being four weeks post-op. I have lost twenty pounds to this point, but I have also been wired shut and exclusively on a liquid diet. The bulk of my weight loss, per the scale, happened in the first week or two. I feel that was primarily water weight and I think I was dehydrated for ...

Re: February 2011 Buddies!!!

I feel like it's easier to breath through my nose. Also, my nostrils is more visible and my nose is maybe a tiny bit wider at the base but I don't think it's very noticeable. I noticed after my SARPE that I can breathe through my nose so much easier! Suzanna & Nathaniel - I have experienced the...

Re: February 2011 Buddies!!!

Back from my weekly check-up with my OS. He expressed concern about that upper jaw "flexibility" (my word), and gave me a thorough look over to see if I had any unexpected movement, but didn't find any. The infection I had last week is all cleared up, which is also good news. I told him th...
