Re: How long was your mouth wired/banded shut?

Just wondering how long everyone else has been shut? I'm hoping it only takes me two weeks in bands because I want to start eating for one and start lifting weights again before my whole summer is shot as well. idk I'm tired of just feeling like laying around cause I can't talk or do much of anythi...

Re: Best protein powder

I could use something that's lower in sugar and fat, preferably. I strongly suggest that you reconsider your low fat constraint. Dietary fat, while high in calories, is particularly beneficial to hormone regulation and to your immune system as well. Coming out of jaw surgery you should take care th...

Re: February 2011 Buddies!!!

My ortho must be following Suzanna's case via this forum and then applying everything he learns to me. As of today, I too am likely to get some IPR at my next visit to his office. *And* he set me up with a nighttime cross-jaw rubber band alignment that looks exactly like the one Suzanna posted above...

Re: February 2011 Buddies!!!

Glad to see the February buddies recovering so strongly. I've been making significant progress as well. I am still wearing rubber bands to finish the alignment of my bite. I've got two bands in the front, making a slight correction to my canines and midline (my lower midline specifically), as well a...

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

He has given me the scissor thing and more elastics to put on if one or two fall off... I just learned that those "scissor things" are officially called hemostats or forceps. I had to ask a girl at my ortho office as my OS provided a pair for me to use when placing my rubber bands, but hi...

Re: Hi there...I'm new and I'm getting jaw surgery in a mont

Rosie - I can relate. Looking back, I think only my wife, my father, and my dentist understood just why I wanted to get my bite fixed through surgery (my orthodontist and oral surgeon don't count). My wife put up with years and years of me threatening to call and make an appointment before I finally...

Re: Magic Bullet

I agree wholeheartedly. At risk of sounding like an advertisement, it's just so quick to use and the clean up is much easier (ie. you can make four, five, six shakes with all the blender cups they provide before throwing them all in the dishwasher). And, as a wired-shut survivor, I can attest the ou...

Re: Dr. Kevin McBride?(shopping for affordable surgical opti

Wow guys, I can't believe you are allowed to name the people that provided your treatment or are about to. I am not allowed :( Not allowed by who? Did you sign a non-disclosure agreement with your surgeon or orthodontist? Or is this a difference between health care systems across different countrie...

Re: MARCH 2011 BUDDIES

I'm still pretty depressed I think. I hate not being able to take care of my family. Plus I'm older than most of you - 37. Freakyteeth - I understand completely about feeling depressed. I'd say that a lack of calories is a prime culprit here in making you feel that way. Looking back at my experienc...

Re: How long did you take off work for recovery?

I couldnt have gone to work at 1 week. 2 weeks, probably. I agree, I could hardly stay awake for more than five hours at a time during the first two weeks, and still allowed myself a nap during the third. I also was able to work half-days when I returned, allowing an adjustment period which helped....

Re: February 2011 Buddies!!!

I got myself an avatar finally. It's my OS unwiring me, if you look closely enough you can see pure joy on my face. Just returned from an official ortho appointment. I didn't expect it, but I have been officially "handed over" from my OS. I still have to see my OS for follow-ups,...

Looking good and it looks like you are feeling even better Suzanna. The pictures really tell your story, especially how happy you are here at the end.

I bit into and chewed a sandwich and a hamburger Wow, wow, wow. This is just fantastic news. Congrats! You don't know how lucky you are to not have any lower jaw numbness. I keep biting my lower lip and having food all over my lower lip/chin (at times)......Are you able to chew well with your mouth...

Re: How long did you take off work for recovery?

I was quite surprised when I felt bored at home. I was looking forward to time away from work, but really I just felt unproductive and somewhat useless -- that is to say, it's not like I was accomplishing anything at home. And I found there really was a limit to how much lounging around I could perf...

Re: How long did you take off work for recovery?

I was prepared to take three weeks off, expecting to work part time for a while after that. Instead, I got bored of being at home and went back to work a week early. I found that I tired easily still so I planned myself a nap most days during that first week back at work. After that I just went in t...
