A daily recount of double jaw surgery from 5 years ago!

Hello everyone, This coming weekend will be my 5 year anniversary of having completed my double jaw surgery. During my recovery, I put together a blog covering my progress and reflections on a daily basis, and I want to share it with you, as I've continued to maintain it all these years. My double j...

Re: long term (long time after) post op stories

In about 2 weeks, I'll be 1 year post-op. It may not be a "few years" just yet, but to share my experience with people looking to do this or not, I would say I have no regrets. My life has changed in so many ways, sometimes I wish I had the courage to do this sooner in life. I'm 28 years o...

Re: Retention after surgery?

I had double jaw surgery in Dec, 2010, coming up on a year ago. I had my braces removed in July, 2011, and I was supposed to have a fixed wire glued to the inside of my front four teeth on both top and bottom, and additionally wear a retainer on top. Instead, at my request, they made clear splints t...

Re: Teeth Grinding/Clenching - Did surgery help???

I had no clenching/grinding problems before my surgery, but ever since the surgery, I am clenching my teeth a lot. I attribute this to the fact that my jaws have literally changed where they sit with respect to the muscles holding them. It's possible that your clenching/grinding problems may go away...

Re: Surgery Date!!!!

congrats with getting a surgery date! this surgery is truly a life-changing experience. I had mine in the beginning of December. I got the same call you got in November, and like you, I was fine until I got the call, then started getting worried once it was finally scheduled. I think it happens to m...

Re: December Buddies ................

badbite, that's great news! I'm surprised you get your braces removed so soon. I think many of us wear braces for at least 6 months post-op!

Great to hear everyone is doing so well.

Re: December Buddies ................

Glad to hear that everyone else is doing as well as they can! badbite, coincidentally, I also caught a cold a few days ago and I'm coughing pretty bad now (especially at night when I'm sleeping). My jaw pain was nearly all gone away, but now that I'm coughing a lot, I wake up in the mornings with so...

Re: December Buddies ................

glad to hear that badbite. I am just over 3 weeks post op and i'm still mostly on liquids. Last night was my first try at eating mashed up pasta, and it was a huge success! I'm really looking forward to eating "normal" food again. One thing that I noticed during my initial recovery (this m...

Re: lower jaw surgery only? Will this change the length of f

Any widening or narrowing of the lower jaw would be to improve the relationship your lower teeth make with your upper teeth. It isn't just the forward/backward movement that is of concern, but also how the teeth actually sit on top of one another. Your orthodontics before surgery will try to move th...
Welcome jsb350. 11 mm wow! That must be a significant change in appearance.
It sure is! I haven't had a chance yet to take some "after" photos, but just looking in the mirror, my jawline is incredibly different. And now that the swelling has come down a l...

Re: December Buddies ................

Hi everyone, I was sort of "looking around" here in early December. The Internet is an amazing place for information and support! I had double jaw surgery on December 6th, so I'll see if you'll let me join this cool group. Congrats to everyone who has had their surgery already, and I wish ...
