Re: sleep study...
I had BCN when I had my jaw surgery in November of last year for obstructive Sleep Apnea and they had no problem at all paying for everything. As long as your Docs send in lots of medical records showing it's medically necessary most insurance companies will cover it.

Re: July 2011 Buddies?
@ramirezmu8: In Santa Ana. @Lucia07 & IamSam12345: Thanks! My surgeon told me I was getting my upper and lower jaw moved about 7mm forward and back respectively. Is that pretty severe? It sounds pretty severe. I just want to be on the road to recovery already. Haha. Back in November I had both ...

Re: July 2011 Buddies?
I went through a BSSO, Lefort 1, Genioplasty and Septoplasty back in November of last year. It was quite the 9hr marathon surgery and I spent 3 nights in the intensive care unit afterwards. The surgery was pretty much a success in that it completely cured my Obstructive Sleep Apnea and improved my a...

Re: Introduction
If you have braces already then they won't have to do the archbars because they'll wrap the wires around the brackets already on your teeth. Archbars are for people who don't have braces. My surgery was due to sleep apnea and my bite was fine, so no braces beforehand. There is another way to wire pe...

Re: How long was your mouth wired/banded shut?
If you have braces then you don't need archbars. Archbars are these nasty things that are put under your gum line wrapped around each of your teeth. Once they are in they have a post that sticks out that allows the Doc to wrap wires around them which holds your jaws shut. They usually put them in wh...

Re: How long was your mouth wired/banded shut?
Thanks....Question for you. How do they have your wired? Did they insert archbars and then wind the wires thru those or do you have braces? Hopefully you have braces because archbars are no fun when they have to take them off!!

Re: November Buddies
Hey Dani.....Hope you are doing well. I know you had some problems after your sugery. Hopefully they were all resolved?? I'm doing pretty well. The final outcome of my surgery cured my sleep apnea (I can't snore even if I try....The airway must be huge) and cosmetically I look much better now (no mo...

Re: To anybody who's already had jaw surgery...
Peskywabbit makes an interesting point....I think I had mild TMJ issues on the left side (never any pain but it would pop every now and then when I would be eating) prior to me having double jaw surgery. However, now even though my jaw surgery was a success (cured my sleep apnea), both of my TMJs ar...

Re: How long was your mouth wired/banded shut?
MeanCactus I wish I was in your shoes by being wired shut for only 5 weeks. After I had my surgery last November, they wired me shut for 10 weeks and after that I had bands for another 2 weeks. My Surgeon let me go back to work after 4 weeks and even though I had another 6 weeks before they cut me o...

Re: Introduction
Their Residents are for the most part pretty good. Dr. Lu was the Resident that Assisted Dr. Helman during my first surgery. He's a pretty good guy. He stayed over night in the intensive care unit with me after my surgery was done because Dr. Helman and him were so worried about my airway due to all...

Re: Bilateral Anterior Disc Displacement after Bi-Max Surger
Per all the professional litature out there and the fact that Tramadol isn't scheduled (Pretty sure anyway....possibly it's a C3), it's not supposed to have the addiction potential like say Morphine, Hydrocodone, Oxycodone, etc...has. But, being that it works on some of the same receptors, and one h...

Re: Introduction
Yeah I have to have another surgery and it sucks really bad. It seems in the process of doing the first surgery they put too much pressure on my TMJs which in turn dislocated both of the discs. I've had lots of surgeries, so that part doesn't bother me....It's being wired shut again that really is g...

Re: Bilateral Anterior Disc Displacement after Bi-Max Surger
Tramadol is a good suggestion Rizzie......However, there is one little problem. I've had so many abdominal surgeries in the past due to my Crohn's disease that I now have lots of adhesions and nerve damage thru out the lower abdominal cavity which causes me a LOT of pain. This has forced me to see a...

Re: Bilateral Anterior Disc Displacement after Bi-Max Surger
Feldene is a NSAID right? Unfortunately I have Crohn's Disease too, so I have to kind of stay away from NSAIDs if at all possible. My Doc gave me Norflex a couple of days ago when I complained that the Flexeril was losing it's effect. Too bad the Norflex works even worse then the Flexeril. I don't k...

Re: sleep study...
Sleep Studies definitely aren't that fun....I've had 6 or 7 sleep studies over the course of the last 5 or 6 years and I never felt like I slept correctly enough for the Pulmonologist to get a good read. I'm a little surprised people post that they aren't allowed to sleep on their sides, always thei...
