Re: Any teachers out there?
I teach and have been in metal uppers and lowers for nearly two and a half years. My kids usually tease me because they have gotten theirs off already. It is good if you are able to laugh at yourself. I spit a lot when I talk now, and sometimes have quite a lisp.

Re: Questions about elastics
The best advice I can offer about elastics is to make sure you wear them. YOur mouth will be sore for a few days but it has never been anything major in my case. I wear xtra heavy 8oz elephants now because I blew off the 4oz ones. Learn from my mistakes

Re: Electric Toothbrush VS Non-Electric Toothbrush
I have a fancy oral b something or other. I only use it before I have an adjustment to get things super shiny clean. For the rest of the time I use snoopy kids toothbrushes from the dollar tree. They only last a week or so before the brackets tear up the bristles. I was going broke on replacement he...

I had it done about a year ago and was scared as well. It turned out to be no big deal, it smelled and tasted pretty bad though.

Re: Anyone get braces without spacers first?
No spaces or molar bands here. Many orthos in my area are getting away from using molar bands. Nasty things, I had them the forst time around when I was a kid.

This thread is a riot. I have an elephant on the left side and wear a Japan on the right. The elephants made fantastic washers for waterlines into the new 'fridge.

I get those. They feel almost like a cat hair stuck in my throat. Vile smelling little things. Throat cheese, gross.

Re: arch wire keeps coming out my molar bands
I had this problem a lot when I was wearing my first wire. It was so thing and flexible that it popped out pretty much every time i tried to chew anything remotely solid. My hubbs got really good at getting it back in with a hemostat. Had no problems once that wire got changed out.

Re: Today was my lucky day!!! I got braced!
Thanks!! :) Do you mean the first few days/week are the most unpleasant part? I got the feeling it gets worse as thicker wires are put on. But time will tell. I had them for 3.5 years as a kid and I can remember going for tightenings back when you had metal bands around every tooth. It was torture....

Re: can't believe i have started this!
I was miserable for weeks after I had my wisdom teeth out. Tomato soup helps, salt water made me gag but sore throat spray helped alot with gum pain. I bought the generic and gargled with it.

Im 33 in a few weeks, braces are the new black. Gaps close up pretty quickly. Before you know it you will be entertaining small children by smiling while eating and asking "is something stuck in my teeth?" Or maybe that is just me *G*

Say what now?
Im going on April 3 for a bone graft and to have the post put in for a first molar implant. The day before that Im going in to have my arch wire taken out. The thing is, the arch wire will stay out until my next ortho appt on May 23. That is nearly two months! I was wondering if this is normal, mayb...
