i got sinus pain whenever i had my braces adjusted, which would gradually subside. pain that comes on suddenly when you haven't had any change to your retainers doesn't sound related to them.

just a little update - i've had the retainers two weeks now, and they do seem to be working for getting that last tooth aligned.

it would depend on the size of the gap, for starters... i had a molar extracted and no way could that gap be closed with a retainer! i had one tooth that shifted a bit at the end of my treatment though, and it's being nudged back into place with an essix.

he told me he could tweak the uppers with essix retainers, if i wear them 24 hours a day. my lowers were totally wired up, but my uppers were pretty much ok before, i only have about three brackets on my upper teeth.

so i guess i'm not getting my essix when i see him next? boo.

i do that all the time! well not usually punching myself (although i've done that) but my son and i have a knack for bonking heads, usually his crainum + my jaw. the number of times i have hurt my teeth or crushed my tongue with the lingual brackets... ugh
