Re: Just broke a brace...

Hi there, I also think that the bracket has popped off! I have broken my brace too many times to mention (eating all the naughty things) and carried on eating as usual believing that the wire would hopefully keep me from losing it. Go see your ortho ASAP and in the meantime pop a blob of wax over it...

Re: NHS braces - Adult - After Accident?

An adult can definately receive free orthadontic treatment from the NHS...I'm 26 and have just started my journey with braces. I believe that eligibility for treatment depends on severuty of the problem. As other people have advised, I would ask your dentist to refer you for a consultation with an o...

Re: Name the craziest/weirdest thing you've done while brace

My husband threatened to clip the end of a very pokey wire with some pliers but I was too scared to let him!

Re: Braces at the office - the reactions I've gotten...

I've got metal upper and lowers so they are very noticeable but I haven't had any negative reactions at all in the office. Everyone is very encouraging and always eager to ask what 'new' things I have gotten when returning from the orthos. I did have a little teasing about a lisp that I developed bu...

Re: How much is orthodontic work in hospital (uk)

Hi there, When I was referred to the hospital it meant that my teeth were that bad that I qualified for treatment free so I'm not sure? I had to pass a hygiene test too. So long as you brush well and floss then you should pass no problems and I think you get three chances at it so you shouldn't worr...

Re: Awake during extractions?

I was awake through my extractions and it honestly was not as bad as I expected it to be. I wanted to be knocked out completely but was told that there was no way that that was gonna happen. So it was either don't have the extractions and don't have braces or be brave. I closed my eyes, put my finge...

Hi there, I have a severe overjet problem and am currently receiving orthadontic treatment on the NHS. I started the process by speaking to my dentist about my concerns which are very much the same as yours and he referred me to the orthadontic department. At my consult it was agreed that my problem...

I was due to have braces fitted just before my wedding - full metal ones and I didn't care one bit..neither did my husband, friends or family and the photographer was so supportive even though it would cause her hours of work on photoshop! As it goes my appointment was postponed and I had them fitte...

Hi there, it took me 2 and a half years from first seeing a consultant at the hospital (which included moulds being done) to actually getting the braces on my teeth. Hopefully it wont take you as long!

A tad annoyed!

So I took the afternoon off work, drove over to the hospital, paid the extortionate parking fee and arrived in good time to find that the consultant would not see me because they have lost my medical records! - and thats not just my orthadontic records, thats all my records! So I now have to wait fo...

Have you tried using a disclosing tablet just to check that you are brushing well? I do it once a week just for peace of mind as I am petrified that my braces will be removed and stains will be left behind :?

My ortho has an absolutely gorgeous smile and she has encouraged all of her team (dental nurse, hygienist, receptionist etc) into braces too. So very soon everyone in the department will have beautiful teeth!
