I would echo most of what's been said. Go talk to a couple of orthodontists and see what they say. While your teeth actually look quite a bit straighter than mine, it looks like you've got a deep anterior overbite that is similar to mine. When I saw the first orthodontist, I learned a great deal abo...

Three words: SALT WATER RINSES! I had about 6 canker sores in my mouth when I came home from work the day after I got braces. I got some benzocaine, but also started salt water rinses. The next day, I couldn't believe the difference. There was only one spot in my mouth that was bothering me at all, ...

I think you should definitely bring up your concerns with your orthodontist. However, I think your teeth look beautiful! (For what it's worth).

I'm sorry, but what are SL Smart Clip braces? I've learned so much from reading this board, but this is one I haven't come across. I'm set to get clear braces on top and metal on the bottom in a couple of weeks. I actually didn't ask about the brand/specifics;I was primarily focused on the nature of...

I'm like VA5. I would never have noticed this a few weeks ago, but now I'm focused on midline issues. I didn't even notice the fact that my own midline is off by several millimeters until the orthodontist pointed it out to me, and I've been looking at myself all my life!

Hang in there. I'll be a couple of weeks behind you, and I can definitely imagine what you're going through. I find myself absolutely obsessing at this point and I must admit that I find myself checking this site a couple of times per day. Part of me wants the time to pass immediately so that I can ...

Thanks wearetheborg and Snowglobe (and everyone else who's posted). You've been wonderful and have definitely provided valuable insight that has helped me put all of this in perspective. I agree with the last comment about vanity-we are all vain to some extent. I certainly can't pretend at this poin...

Just a little followup. As a "reality check", I went for a second opinion from another orthodontist, and she said essentially the same thing. This all seems like a "no-brainer" to them. Overall, I felt like I "clicked" more with the first orthodontist, so I called him b...

Thanks to all for your kind words and encouragement. I had my initial consultation today, and while I still feel a little silly about the whole thing, I felt very comfortable with the orthodontist and the treatment coordinator. They acknowledged my self-consciousness as a good enough reason to pursu...

Thanks to all for your encouragement and perspective. I've decided to take the plunge (or at least the next step) and filled out a request for consultation with a local orthodontist. We'll see how it goes. I'm still having visions of being laughed out of the office...

I'm really curious to hear how everything turns out. Please keep us updated. I can relate;I've agonized over the decision myself (and still haven't seen anyone). In my case, I've always been embarrassed to let my teeth show, but I'm not sure whether I really "need" braces in absolute terms...

Trying to decide on treatment, embarrassed.

I'm 39 years old and I've always been self-conscious about the way my teeth look. Honestly, I don't think my teeth are terribly bad in absolute terms, but they're certainly a little crooked and I've got a little of an overbite (again, mild). My parents never took me to an orthodontist when I was a k...
