Re: Molar bands are slowly killing me!
Is there something my ortho can do about this? I would assume he would be able to do something but I'm a bit weary about calling and asking because they had a lot of problems getting the left band on. Hi Silencebroken - Your ortho might be able to do something about this and you shouldn't worry abo...

Re: When Does Shaping of Teeth Occur?
Currrently, I have what she calls "little triangles" (gaps between the gum tissue and the incisors that give the appearance of black pepper). I should have asked her last time but failed. Anyone have a clue I'm at nearly 6 months and have had IPR done at my adjustment today to get rid of ...

I don't know if this would work for everybody, but I've found I can eat curry without staining by using wax as a shield for my ligs! I just put it on the front ones. Not the most glamorous feeling, but it beats the bright yellow colour hands down... I only have ligs on the bottom though - I suppose ...

Hopefully you're on the mend then - just one of those disturbances perhaps? I definitely recommend trying an anti-bacterial/gum-friendly toothpaste on the gum as it really seemed to clear things up fast for me. You can also use a chlorhexidine mouthwash (like Corsodyl) if you're not already - althou...

Hi, I'm afraid I can't give any insight into the physical aspects, but I understand your concerns on a psychological level, particularly from the professional point of view. I quite often make presentations to external organisations and it does bother me that people are looking at my braces rather t...

Hi, I had a similar sort of problem recently with the gum between my molars - it was quite painful to do, but was sorted out by using an interdental brush (proxy brush) between the teeth with some toothpaste - I left the toothpaste in there rather than rinsing away afterwards - it was one of those t...

Hi Fleur, I'm also in the UK and you're right, it's really difficult to find orthodontic toothbrushes here - you'd think at least Boots would sell them! I found a UK site called orthostore.co.uk which sells orthodontic brushes. They're not the sort of quality you'd expect of Oral B or a similar bran...

Quick note re disclosing tablets - I have used two different types of disclosing tablets (purple ones that start off very dark blue and leave a pink stain - supplied by my ortho - and bright blue ones which came from Boots in the UK) with ceramics/clear ligs - they don't stain the ligs at all althou...

I'm the opposite way round - S/L ceramic on top and ceramics with ligs on the bottom. Never thought of it before, but the bottom ones do trap more food - always in there with the little brushes - they drive me mad! Not very scientific, I know, since it's only a sample of 2 people, but given Catgyrl ...

Re: Spacers tomorrow
my mouth has always been super-sensitive (for instance, sucking on a hard candy would tear up the roof of my mouth and make it sore, some foods seemed to irritate it, among other things). Is there anything I can do to try to toughen up my cheeks/mouth ahead of the braces, or just deal the best I ca...

I've noticed some staining also as my overcrowded teeth have started moving apart. Bit nervous to do anything about it though, in case I end up with patchy teeth when the brackets come off due to the bits underneath not being exposed to the stain remover. Trying not to think about it too much, could...

Hi, Not sure whether it's normal, but I think I know what you mean - I have had similar experiences with both top and bottom incisors, where it seemed there was pain only when pressure put on one side of the tooth. This has been in teeth where there is another one in the way, so it's more difficult ...

Hi, My Ortho said that orange juice would cause staining, which I found surprising, along with the things you'd expect, e.g. anything with turmeric (I think this is the worst culprit), coffee, tea, cola etc. Lots of spices other than turmeric probably have an effect too, though a lesser one. However...

I am still in pain on and off nearly 7 weeks into treatment. For me, there are two types of pain - there's a general achey tiredness in my jaw, which is there most of the time, and then pain in particular teeth, which is quite sharp and worse with biting down or when my teeth accidentally knock toge...
