My thought is that any exercise, if done too much, can cause problems w/joints and all that. So, why don't you just try some of the things you've found online, slowly but consistently? Just like any other exercise. You can't expect to run and not to develop some sort of permanent (most times) joint...

I was wondering what your ortho has said about this topic? I have a feeling a lot of doctors and orthos will not know how to help you, though. I think online searches is the best way and just doing things without too much aggression. Actually, I don't have an ortho yet. Why can't you edit posts her...

Figuring out how to make them grow, is no problem, actually. it's just like every other muscle. What we should be focusing on is whether or not doing exercises will result in TMJ problems, and if yes, whether there's any type, or any intensity level that will not.

VA5, and anyone else interested in this subject, take a look at this: http://www.dysphagiaplus.com/resource-links/Excellent-Oral-Motor-and-Pharyngeal-Swallow-Exercises-for-Adult-and-Pediatric-Population.pdf Look at page 3, under the heading Jaw excercises look at 4. My guess would be that you could do that. Mmasseter enlargement (hypertrophy is the medical term) is more common in Asian people, supposedly because they eat a lot of chewy foods. People who grind their teeth at night (bruxism) get hypertrophy. It seems safe to assume that you could induce hypertro...

Many years ago when I was in school they were experimenting with an electronic stimulus device that used implanted electrodes into the masseter and every so often it would fire causing the muscles to clench. The goal was to intrude the posterior teeth. I dont think it ever came to be but seems woul...

Interesting. In essence the next result would be posterior intrusion from the stronger biting force. I could see this as quite possibly causing some muscular pain, TMD, etc since that is often a cause for it in the forst place. FWIW, I have has some success w/ botox in relieving 'hyperactive' muscl...

This is an interesting post. Because I am attempting to enlarge those muscles on one side of my face that I feel has "atrophied" a bit after getting braces. At first, I thought it was due to extractions, and then I thought it was due to a molar I lost on that side. I'm sure both of these ...

Enlarging the jaw muscles (masseters)

I know that a lot of people on this forum have a long face and are bothered by this. One possible way to fix this is if you were able to enlarge the muscles on the sides of your lower jaw (masseters). This is something that happens in people who grind their teeth at night and sometimes it happens fo...

My face definitely got thinner for awhile. No one can tell me different. One cheek is a bit more profound than the another too. It was bad and a big source of stress for me. It is much better although it is not as full as it was before. I miss my fuller face, but what can you do? I'm gonna h...

I am not sure why you referred to that. The result of that appliance is not something you would want as increasing the posterior facial height would increase the anterior facial height and exaggerate your problem. I read in a manual for the herbst appliance that the increases in anterior facial hei...

You can see the result of mandibular counterclokwise rotation here: http://www.amazingfaces.com/procedures_ ... .php?ID=37

Though here it was achieved with maxillary impaction (shortening).
