Re: One year on (before and after pics)...

Lovely results, Dani! It is amazing how mere millimeters can make such dramatic changes in a person's appearance. Hope the ear issue can be sorted out--sounds like permanent grommets may be in your future, but whatever it takes, right? Question: Did your teeth move even though you were wearing your ...

Re: only one day in hospital?

It is common in the US. I've noticed NHS patients usually stay longer. I had double jaw surgery and stayed overnight. I didn't feel perky and "ready" to go home, but another day wouldn't have made any difference in my recovery. Once I got home, I was glad I didn't have to spend another nig...

Re: Post-Surgery Survey: How "off" was your bite post-surger

My bite was pretty good while I was in elastics, but I am not wearing them now, and my bite has shifted. Right now, my ortho says we are working "on the little things". I have several teeth that still need to come into final alignment. My canines hit, so I know my arches still need roundin...

Re: Question about breathing and swelling

Youch! That poor guy, as you put it, is one of the unlucky ones. That is an unusual amount of swelling! I wouldn't worry too much about the amount of swelling. When going into this surgery, especially double jaw, you just have to wrap your head around the idea that you won't look too hot for awhile....

Re: July 2011 Buddies?

FYI, constipation can be awful after surgery. With the opiate pain killers, general anesthesia, inactivity, and a liquid diet, you will probably need something to get things going. Don't wait too many days to try prune juice or a mild laxative. Save yourself some misery!

Re: I want your opinion!

It would probably help to see a pic of you from the front to see the length of your face straight on. I understand why your surgeon isn't dictating the choice as they both look good from the side. Do you feel like your face is too long? If you do, then that might be the best choice for you.

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

Hello May buddies. I'm assuming that most of us are back under the care of our orthodontists. Mine has me in elastics--two on one side and one on the other side to close some small gaps and bring my bite together. I am supposed to wear them except when eating and brushing. I have 4 oz. elastics to w...

Re: facial changes going into jaw surgery?

Things most definitely get worse prior to surgery! It's all about getting things right for the new jaw placement. Don't you just love candid photos?

Re: Bilateral Anterior Disc Displacement after Bi-Max Surger

Hey, beowuf, sorry to hear you have to go through this again. That is the last thing a jaw surgery survivor wants to hear! So much of this recovery is mind over matter, and it sounds like you are handling things quite well. You can do this! As far as pain relief goes, since you cannot take NSAIDs, m...

I'm so glad that you like your doctor! I felt bad that no one knew him and the other thread went unanswered. Good luck, and I hope you end up with a fabulous chin!

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

For those of you who have begun to chew again...how would you describe the feeling you have in your jaws and teeth? I just started back chewing at 6 wks postop, and all I can say is that something, either the food or my numb teeth/gums feels spongy. I am hoping this is normal. My OS said it would fe...

Starting to chew again

I got the OK to start chewing, but it just feels so odd. The way I would describe it is kind of a squishy feeling. Is this normal? I am now 6 weeks post op.

Re: MAY 2011 BUDDIES!!!!

Ok, finally something to report. I saw my OS today for my 6 week checkup. He took off the elastics and cleared me to chew and see my ortho. So I saw my ortho 3 hours later, and I am back in elastics again, and they are tighter than the ones the OS had me in! (and these are the lightweight/daytime ba...
