SARPE and Ortho visits
I have read that SARPE is performed and the jaw is expanding for a few weeks. After this, the jaw is stabilized for the next 6 months to allow the bone to heal in the new position. During this time braces are not on. My question is, during this six months are you having to see the ortho for any reas...

Where are the 4 teeth being extracted from? I have heard of people with crowding due to a narrow upper jaw that get teeth extracted. These people could instead have SARPE to expand their upper jaw and then would need expansion. I would hate to have 4 teeth removed when I could of fixed the problem (...

Jaw Surgery for Adults: When is it required?
I have been to orthodontists. One was a couple years ago and she said that I would probably need jaw surgery (she would have to take molds to be sure). I went to an ortho today and based on the consultation (no molds), he said I do not need jaw surgery, but can just use appliances He estimates my pa...

IA / Lingual Nerve repair
I have read a lot on this forum of people who have nerve damage as a result of jaw surgery. It seems pretty scary. How come more people do not get their nerve repaired? I know that the New York Center for Orthognathic & Maxillofacial Surgery uses microsurgery techniques to repair these nerves. D...

Thank you for the response moonpie. Yes, I do not have insurance either and will be paying out of pocket. When you saw the jaw surgeon and received a consultation did they take x-rays and come up with a plan of action (lower or upper or both. how far will the jaw have to be moved, etc). If so, I thi...

Okay, I am not really familiar with the procedures. Is it the ortho or the surgeon the one that decides how my teeth need to be post surgery? If I were to do this, would I find a surgeon first and then an ortho? Or do people typically find a surgeon a couple months prior to needing that? It seems pr...

Braces in Colombia -- Jaw Surgery in USA - Possible?
I have been told by several dentists that I need jaw surgery, so I intend to get it within the next year. My main problem is that I am moving to Colombia. My question is... How coordinated does the orthodontist and the jaw surgeon need to be? Ideally, I would like to get accelerated orthodontics (br...
