I'm planned for upper and lower jaw surgery to fix an underbite/asymmetry as well. This is what I was told in writing: Bilateral Sagittal Ramusotomy: Moving the mandible 4mm back, 4mm up, and 2mm left, to correct the prognathism and laterognathia, complete correction of the apertognathia, and establ...

Strange... I've always been a head tilter in pictures. Never thought it could be associated with my asymmetric jaw

Hey I enjoyed reading your blog and I could relate to some of the things you're going through. Can't really say what kind of surgery you need, maybe upper, lower, or both. I think a doctor needs x-rays to make that decision. I got my braces mid-june and will also need surgery for an underbite. Was e...

Only a doctor can tell you if the movement needed is skeletal or dental.

I'm 24 and having braces for first time as well for an underbite. Are your teeth already pretty straight? 6 mo seems really short. I was estimated 12-18 mo for the braces, but I don't know how long until i'll be ready for surgery. My lowers are pretty straight but my uppers having some crowding.

Tough time deciding, finally made a decision!!

First saw an ortho about a year ago and was shocked to hear that I needed surgery so I just ignored it for a while. Actually visited about 4 orthos to get multiple opinions. Eventually saw an oral surgeon and got my surgery approved about 3 months ago so I have just been debating ever since if I wan...

I feel the same way. I think those of us with asymmetry are very used to looking at ourselves a certain way in the mirror, so when we see ourselves in a picture and its opposite, it looks very strange because of the asymmetry.
